Caleb Williams performed well for Chicago on Monday despite the loss. The Bears’ signal caller finished 21-of-35 for 210 yards with a touchdown and added 58 rushing yards and a score on six attempts, giving Chicago a legitimate dual-threat in the red zone. RB D’Andre Swift gained 53 yards. DJ Moore paced the receivers (68 yards) while wideout Rome Odunze had a touchdown reception.
The defense performed well despite the Bears giving up 27 points. The front seven produced three sacks, highlighted by Dayo Odeyingbo and Gervon Dexter Sr. each having one. On the injury front, Chicago listed key defenders Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon as inactive for Week 2, something to monitor against Detroit’s pass game.
Detroit Lions Preview
Detroit moved the ball efficiently through the air in Week 1 but struggled to finish drives. Jared Goff went 31-of-39 for 225 yards (79.5% completion %) with a touchdown and an interception, Sam LaPorta had six receptions for 79 yards, and Amon-Ra St. Brown caught four passes for 45 yards. The run game never got untracked: 46 yards on 22 carries (2.1 YPC) between David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs.

The lack of balance put pressure on pass protection, and while the line generally held up, Detroit’s offense did not display the explosiveness it did in almost every game a season ago. Defensively, Jack Campbell led the way with nine tackles, but the Lions need to step up against the Chicago offense as they will be facing a legitimate dual-threat at QB. Rookie corner Terrion Arnold is listed as questionable, which matters against Chicago’s speed at wideout.
Chicago Bears vs Detroit Lions Prediction
This matchup will come down to red-zone execution and which defense creates more turnovers. Goff’s passing plus LaPorta’s matchup over the middle fit well versus a Bears secondary that may be short of full strength. On the other side, Williams’ legs can extend drives for the Bears, but Detroit’s key players (Campbell, Anzalone) are strong at limiting yards after the catch.
