Cincinnati Bengals Have the Offense to Cause Problems
Cincinnati is 5-2 after beating Tennessee 43-36 in overtime last Sunday. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the Bengals needed overtime to beat a Titans team that’s won once all season. I don’t care how many points you score. Giving up 36 to Tennessee is going to raise some questions about your defense.
The Bengals have shown they can move the football, and that’s what makes them dangerous against Atlanta. Cincinnati can score quickly, which puts pressure on opponents to keep answering. But the defense needs to help out occasionally. You can’t keep asking the offense to win every game by putting up 35 or 40 points. Eventually, that’s going to catch up with you.
What I do like is that Cincinnati has already shown it can respond when things get uncomfortable. That Tennessee game wasn’t pretty, but the Bengals found a way to win. Traveling overseas adds another wrinkle, and both teams have to deal with it. At least Cincinnati is heading to Madrid with a victory instead of spending the week wondering why its offense couldn’t score.

Atlanta Falcons Need to Find Their Offense Again
Atlanta is 3-5 after losing 16-0 to Tampa Bay last Sunday. A shutout is bad enough. Doing it right before facing a Cincinnati team that just scored 43 points makes the situation look even worse. The Falcons had beaten San Francisco 29-20 the previous week, so the offense hasn’t been completely hopeless. But that Tampa Bay performance was a major step backward.
The Falcons need to run the football effectively and keep Cincinnati’s offense watching from the sideline. That’s the best way to approach this matchup. If Atlanta starts throwing the ball around because it’s already behind by two touchdowns, the game could get away quickly. Cincinnati has enough scoring ability to punish mistakes.
I do think Atlanta has a chance to make this interesting. The Bengals just allowed 36 points to Tennessee, and that should give the Falcons some encouragement. Cincinnati’s defense is far from unbeatable. But Atlanta has to prove it can finish drives. Moving the ball between the 20-yard lines doesn’t mean much when you’re walking away with no points.

I’ll lay the three with Cincinnati. Look, the Bengals’ defense worries me. It should worry anybody thinking about betting on them. But Atlanta just got shut out, and I don’t trust the Falcons to suddenly keep pace with an offense that put up 43 last weekend. Cincinnati has been better overall, and I think its ability to score gives it the edge in Madrid. The neutral field takes away Atlanta’s usual home advantage, too. I’ll take the Bengals by more than a field goal.
Total Pick: Over 51.5
I’m going over 51.5, although Atlanta has to contribute for this to work. Cincinnati’s last game produced 79 combined points, and the Bengals’ defense gave up 36 to a struggling Tennessee team. That tells me Atlanta should find opportunities if it executes better than it did against Tampa Bay. Cincinnati could get into the 30s, and then we’re asking the Falcons for something in the low 20s. That’s not unreasonable. The concern is another miserable Atlanta offensive performance, but I think the Bengals’ defensive issues give the Falcons enough chances to push this over.
