The Detroit Lions head to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Bears on Sunday, January 4, 2026, with kickoff scheduled for 4:25 PM ET at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. This NFC North matchup will be televised on FOX, and weather could play a major role, with temperatures expected around 26°, creating cold, potentially harsh late-season conditions. With playoff positioning and pride both in play, this game sets up as one of the more intriguing late-window contests. Detroit Fighting to Finish .500 on the Road

Detroit enters this matchup at 8-8 overall and 3-5 on the road, but momentum has not been on their side. The Lions have lost three straight games, including a 23-10 road loss at Minnesota on Christmas Day and a 29-24 home defeat against Pittsburgh the week prior. While Detroit has shown flashes offensively, defensive breakdowns and late-game struggles have kept them from closing out games during this recent slide.

From a statistical standpoint, Detroit’s offense has been powered by Jared Goff, who has thrown for 4,233 yards with 33 touchdowns and just 7 interceptions. The Lions also boast one of the league’s most productive run games behind Jahmyr Gibbs, who has rushed for 1,143 yards and 13 touchdowns. In the passing game, Amon-Ra St. Brown leads the way with 1,262 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns, while defensively Aidan Hutchinson anchors the pass rush with 13.5 sacks.

Injuries are a concern for Detroit heading into this cold-weather matchup. Amon-Ra St. Brown is listed as questionable with a knee issue, and the offensive line has several key names on the injury report, including Taylor Decker, Penei Sewell, Kayode Awosika, and Christian Mahogany, all listed as questionable. Any absences up front could be magnified against Chicago’s defensive front.

Chicago Holding Serve at Soldier Field

Chicago comes in at 11-5 overall and 6-1 at home, continuing to show why Soldier Field has been a tough venue for visiting teams. The Bears are coming off a 42-38 road loss at San Francisco, but before that had won two of their previous three games, including an overtime win over Green Bay and a dominant 31-3 victory against Cleveland.

Offensively, Chicago has leaned on rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who has thrown for 3,730 yards with 25 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions. The Bears have also gotten steady production from D’Andre Swift, who has rushed for 1,047 yards and 9 touchdowns, while DJ Moore leads the receiving corps with 671 yards and 6 touchdowns. Defensively, Montez Sweat has recorded 9.5 sacks, and Tremaine Edmunds leads the team with 104 tackles.

Chicago also has several players listed as questionable, including Rome Odunze, Jonah Jackson, Ozzy Trapilo, and Nick McCloud. Linebacker Noah Sewell remains on injured reserve, but overall the Bears appear healthier than Detroit heading into this divisional matchup.

Detroit Lions vs Chicago Bears Prediction

From an ATS perspective, I’m backing the Bears -3 at home. Chicago has been strong at Soldier Field all season, and the cold weather favors a Bears team that has been more consistent defensively. With Detroit dealing with multiple offensive line injuries and entering on a losing streak, I trust Chicago to control the trenches and win this game by more than a field goal.

For the total, I’m leaning Under 50.5. The frigid temperatures, combined with two teams that should emphasize the run game and ball control, make it difficult to see this matchup turning into a true shootout. Cold weather at Soldier Field often limits explosive passing plays, and that sets up well for a lower-scoring divisional battle.

Final Score Prediction: Chicago Bears 27, Detroit Lions 20
