The Las Vegas Raiders visit Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts, on Sunday to play the New England Patriots in the opening game of the NFL regular season for both teams. Las Vegas finished 4-13 last season and was last in the AFC West. Las Vegas hired veteran head coach Pete Carroll, who brings plenty of experience and has had just four losing seasons during an 18-year NFL coaching career. Las Vegas could suffer from a lack of depth during an 18-week NFL season due to injuries. Meyers and Tre Tucker are the only wideouts to have more than 500 yards receiving in one season. Eric Stokes has 32 career starts, but the rest of the team has a combined 22. Las Vegas won't have to have rookies such as corner Darien Porter, wide receiver Dont’e Thornton Jr, and others step up and become solid contributors early.
Patriots Preview
The New England Patriots were 4-13 and last in the AFC East during the 2024-25 season. New England's strength on offense this year will be rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson, who also had a 100-yard return for a touchdown in the preseason. Henderson can score from anywhere on the field. Drake Maye will start at quarterback, and his top targets will be Stefon Diggs, Demario Douglas, and Hunter Henry.
The New England defense is expected to improve from last season, thanks to the addition of free agent defensive tackle Milton Williams. New England's front three on its 3-4 setup will have Williams and Christian Barmore at the ends with Khyiris Tonga as the nose tackle. The linebacker corps for the Patriots will be led in the middle by Robert Spillane and Christian Elliss, while the second has safeties Jayline Hawkins and Dell Pettus.

New England is expected to have an improved offense under quarterback Drake Maye and rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson. The defense for the Patriots is also expected to be stronger than last season. However, Las Vegas has Pete Carroll on the sidelines and with his head coaching experience and a veteran QB in Geno Smith, look for the Raiders to surprise teams, and that starts with an upset win on the road Sunday.
