The 2026 NFL regular season will kick off on Wednesday night, when the New England Patriots battle the Seattle Seahawks from Lumen Field. Get ready for all the football action with our NFL Picks. The Patriots (14-3) are led by MVP runner up Drake Maye, who led an offense that ranked third in yards and scored a shade below 29 points per game. New England traded for WR A.J. Brown to give Maye a number one option and provided reinforcements on an offensive line that allowed at least five sacks in each playoff game. TreVeyon Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson have both proven capable at the running back spot.

Two years ago, New England finished in the bottom half of the league in total defense. Last year, the Patriots ascended to eighth in that category and held opponents to 18.8 points per game. Harold Landry (8.5 sacks) bolstered the pass rush and that was a major factor in the improved secondary play.

Seahawks Preview

The Seattle Seahawks were not predicted by many to make the playoffs in 2025 and had the last laugh by defeating New England in the Super Bowl. QB Sam Darnold also proved his naysayers wrong by ranking fifth in the NFL in passing yards (4,048 yds) and throwing for 25 touchdowns. The Seahawks (14-3) lost offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who was named Las Vegas head coach, and Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker to Kansas City. All-Pro WR Jaxon Smith-Ngijba led the league in receiving yards (1,793 yds) and caught ten touchdowns.

Seattle finished sixth in the league in total defense and were stingiest in points allowed (17.2 ppg). All 11 starters return on the defensive side of the ball and the line accounted for 27 sacks. CB Devin Witherspoon is one of the best at this position and will continue to blanket the opponent's top receiving option.
