New York Jets Can’t Keep Giving Games Away
The Jets are 2-6 after losing 38-33 to Las Vegas on Sunday. That’s a painful one. New York led 23-14 at halftime and 30-21 in the third quarter, then watched the Raiders score 17 of the final 20 points. The Jets also lost 28-25 to Miami the previous week. That’s 66 points allowed over two games against teams that aren’t exactly offensive powerhouses.
The Jets have actually been moving the football better lately. Scoring 33 against Las Vegas and 25 against Miami is a big improvement over some of their earlier performances. But it doesn’t mean much when the defense keeps giving those points right back. Kansas City is a much tougher assignment than either of those opponents, and New York can’t afford another defensive collapse.
Here’s the problem. The Jets can make this interesting if they run the football effectively and avoid turnovers. But asking them to do that for four quarters at Arrowhead is a pretty big request. Kansas City is going to put pressure on them, and New York hasn’t shown much ability to handle adversity once things start going wrong.

Kansas City Chiefs Need to Finish the Job
Kansas City is 5-2 after losing 28-24 to Denver on Sunday. The Chiefs had a 24-13 lead late in the third quarter and couldn’t finish it. They also lost 20-3 to Seattle the previous week, so they’ve dropped two straight after starting the season 5-0. That’s not the kind of stretch Kansas City fans are used to seeing.
The offense has been inconsistent, and that’s what bothers me about laying nearly 10 points. Kansas City scored only three against Seattle, then managed 24 against Denver. The Chiefs had opportunities to put the Broncos away but couldn’t finish drives when it mattered. That’s something they need to clean up before worrying about covering a big spread.
But the matchup is favorable. New York just allowed 38 points to Las Vegas, and Kansas City has more than enough offensive talent to take advantage of that defense. The Chiefs are at home, they’re coming off consecutive losses, and I expect a much more focused performance. The Jets might score some points, but I don’t trust them to get enough stops.

I’m laying the 9.5 with Kansas City. I know the Chiefs haven’t looked great lately, and asking them to win by double digits after two straight losses isn’t exactly comfortable. But look at the opponent. The Jets just gave up 38 to Las Vegas and 28 to Miami. Kansas City should be able to move the football against that defense. The Chiefs also have a much better chance of getting stops than the Raiders did last weekend. I think Kansas City gets ahead early and makes New York chase the game. Give me the Chiefs by at least 10.
Total Pick: Over 46.5
I’m taking the over 46.5. The Jets have been involved in consecutive games with 53 and 71 combined points, and their defense has been giving up too many big plays. Kansas City should be able to score, especially at home after a couple of frustrating losses. New York has also been putting up more points lately, so I don’t think the Chiefs have to do everything themselves. The concern is Kansas City’s offense getting stuck again, like it did against Seattle. But against this Jets defense, I expect a better performance. Something around 31-20 would get us over.
