Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Chicago Bears Picks, Prediction, Odds, and Line Movement for Sunday November 8 2026

By: Alex MacMillan Updated 11/07/2026, 10:47 PM ET

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers travel to Soldier Field to face Chicago at 8:20 p.m. ET on Sunday, November 8. Sunday night's matchup at Soldier Field is built around rushing, not the customary assumption that a prime-time game will turn into a quarterback duel. Chicago enters 6-2 after beating New England and Seattle in consecutive high-profile games. Tampa Bay is 3-5 despite a 16-0 shutout of Atlanta last week. Both teams rank near the top of the league in rushing production, and both defend the run effectively. Chicago's edge grows if Tampa's ground game stalls on first down and Mayfield must attack obvious passing looks without enough time to reset the pocket.

Odds and Line Movement

Market quotations documented November 7 show Chicago -6 (-112) at DraftKings in a published sportsbook snapshot; bet365 lists Chicago -6.5; total 47.5. Chicago opened near -3.5 and has advanced to -6 or -6.5 following successive prime-time wins. The DraftKings -6 (-112) selection is tied to the November 7 quote; bet365's -6.5 offers half a point less protection against a late Tampa score. A half-point around a key spread margin or a total can change whether the same projected score covers a wager.

The betting line has moved decisively toward Chicago from about -3.5 to -6, with -6.5 also available in other snapshots. That is a meaningful increase and makes price discipline essential. At -6, a Bears victory by a touchdown covers; at -6.5, a seven-point win still covers but offers less room for late scoring. Chicago -6 at DraftKings (-112) leaves the Bears room to push on a six-point win, whereas the -6.5 market would lose on that same result.

Game Preview

Quarterback and Offensive Matchup

Baker Mayfield leads a Tampa offense that is unusually run-heavy. The Buccaneers are averaging roughly 169 rushing yards per game, more than any other NFL team entering Week 9, but their passing totals have been much weaker. Irving's rushing has kept Tampa Bay competitive on early downs, especially when Mayfield has not been able to push the ball downfield. That approach worked emphatically against Atlanta, but Chicago's front is a more difficult opponent. If the Bears contain early rushing attempts, Mayfield will need to produce more than the very limited passing output seen in recent games.

Caleb Williams has given Chicago greater flexibility. The Bears can use D'Andre Swift to build rushing volume, then use Williams' mobility and intermediate passing to punish defenses that crowd the box. Chicago ran effectively during its victory in Seattle and moved the ball with enough variety to avoid becoming predictable. This is important because Tampa Bay ranks among the league's best run defenses. The Bears cannot simply assume they will collect another 150 yards on the ground. Their passing game must force the Buccaneers to defend the full field.

Defense, Injuries and Game Context

Chicago's backfield does have an availability question: Kyle Monangai is questionable with thumb and toe concerns. Tampa Bay has ruled out edge defender YaYa Diaby, while receiver Emeka Egbuka is questionable. Without Diaby, Tampa Bay must replace pressure off the edge; Egbuka's status determines how many established wideout options Mayfield can use on longer downs. A reduced Buccaneers edge rotation would help Chicago protect Williams and create rushing angles, whereas an Egbuka limitation would further concentrate Mayfield's receiving options. The value of a 6-point spread depends partly on whether Tampa can generate enough passing offense when the Bears take away the run.

The contrast between the teams' recent form matters beyond the final scores. Chicago has shown it can win different kinds of games, first defeating New England and then beating Seattle 34-17 on the road. Tampa's shutout win was impressive defensively, but the 16-point offensive result also illustrates how a strong rushing performance does not always translate into a high total. Against a Bears team capable of converting stalled opponents' possessions into good field position, the Buccaneers may need better red-zone finishing than they have shown consistently.

A Tampa Bay deficit of eight or more would force Mayfield into the type of passing volume that has been difficult for this offense to sustain. A run-centered attack becomes less useful when the clock is the enemy, and Mayfield must create faster scoring opportunities against a Bears defense that can protect the sidelines. Chicago's ability to force that game state, rather than pure talent superiority, is the practical reason to prefer the home side.

How the Matchup Could Unfold

Weather is not expected to force either side into a completely different offense. Forecasts suggest cool conditions with manageable wind and little precipitation in Chicago. A modest breeze can affect longer kicks, but the core matchup remains the two rushing games against strong defensive fronts. The difference is Chicago's apparent ability to create points through more varied methods. If Tampa struggles to generate explosive passes, the Bears can play with a lead and choose how much risk to take in the second half.

There are real challenges to a Chicago cover. Tampa can control time of possession, and a long Irving-led drive limits Williams' opportunities. A few Bears penalties or a turnover on a potential scoring drive could keep the margin inside six. Tampa's defense also has the personnel to challenge Chicago's run game without overcommitting safeties. The game is unlikely to resemble a routine mismatch between a good offense and a weak defense. Chicago must win both the field-position and efficiency contests to justify a spread that has already increased materially.

Tampa Bay's defense is not likely to surrender uncontested rushing gains. Chicago must create favorable blocking angles and then convert its third downs when runs gain only two or three yards. Williams' mobility is useful in those moments because an avoided sack can preserve a field-goal chance or create a fresh set of downs. The Bears' recent improvement has been reflected in the line, so execution against a strong front is the price of covering.

Best Bet

Best Bet: Chicago Bears -6 (-112 at DraftKings reference)

A 27-17 Chicago win is the preferred script. The Bears gradually establish a lead by mixing Swift's rushing with Williams' throws, while Tampa's limited passing efficiency makes a comeback more difficult. The projection credits the Buccaneers with rushing success and multiple scoring chances, but it expects Chicago to finish more drives and get ahead of schedule often enough to create a two-possession margin. That is sufficient for Bears -6 without relying on an improbable offensive explosion.

The opening spread closer to a field goal was more attractive, but it is no longer the current decision. A fair assessment must acknowledge that some of Chicago's value has already disappeared in the move to six. The remaining case at the quoted number depends on Tampa's restricted passing game and the Bears' superior offensive balance. A further rise through seven would require a new handicap rather than an automatic recommendation.

Prediction: Chicago Bears 27, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17.
