Washington Commanders vs San Francisco 49ers Picks and Predictions for Monday October 19 2026
The Washington Commanders head to Santa Clara on Monday, October 19, 2026, to face the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8:15 PM ET on ESPN and ABC. Washington is coming off a frustrating 27-27 tie with the Giants, while San Francisco stayed undefeated by beating Seattle 32-29. The 49ers are favored by 7.5 points, with the total sitting at 50.5. The early forecast calls for temperatures around 63 degrees, winds near 15 mph and a small chance of rain. Not bad for football. I’m going with San Francisco here. Washington has been giving up almost 30 points a game, and now it gets a quarterback who’s thrown 13 touchdowns in five games. The 49ers have some injuries, sure. But have you watched Washington try to stop anybody lately? I don’t see that getting much easier Monday night. Make sure you check out all of our free NFL picks.
Washington Commanders Keep Making Life Difficult
Washington is 1-3-1 and hasn’t won either road game. The Commanders had a chance to beat the Giants last Sunday and somehow walked away with a 27-27 tie. They blew a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter, then wasted a chance to kick the winning field goal in overtime. With the clock running out, Jayden Daniels ended up on a short play instead of getting the ball spiked for a kick. Game over. Dan Quinn took responsibility, but I imagine that didn’t make anybody in Washington feel much better. The Commanders lost 30-13 to Indianapolis the week before, so it’s now two straight games without a win. Their only victory came against Seattle, 33-31. That seems like a strange result now, considering how everything else has gone. Washington can play good football for stretches. Finishing the job has been another matter.
The Commanders are scoring 23 points per game and allowing 29.8. That’s a lot of points to give up every Sunday. Washington averages 139.6 rushing yards, which is actually pretty good. The passing game hasn’t been nearly as productive, putting up about 188 net yards per contest. Defensively, the Commanders are allowing roughly 255 passing yards and 95.4 rushing yards per game. So stopping the run hasn’t been the biggest problem. Getting off the field when somebody starts throwing? That’s where things get ugly. Washington has recorded nine sacks and three interceptions through five games. The defense is also struggling on third down, and San Francisco has been converting more than half of its chances. That’s not a matchup I like for the Commanders. Purdy doesn’t need much encouragement to find an open receiver. Washington has been giving quarterbacks plenty of opportunities.
Daniels has thrown for 459 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in his limited playing time. Injuries have kept him from getting into a steady rhythm this season. He returned against the Giants and threw for 199 yards, then added 103 rushing yards and two scores on the ground. That’s why Washington still has a chance to make things interesting. Daniels can get out of trouble with his legs when a play breaks down. Jacory Croskey-Merritt leads the running backs with 239 yards and two touchdowns on 67 carries. Terry McLaurin has caught 14 passes for 203 yards and a touchdown, although he’s dealing with a hamstring problem. Stefon Diggs has also been sidelined with a hamstring injury. On defense, Amik Robertson has 33 tackles, while K’Lavon Chaisson has recorded two sacks. Washington has some other injuries to worry about, including Trey Amos and Deatrich Wise Jr. I like Daniels when he’s healthy, but he’s going to need some help. Asking him to carry this offense and make up for a defense allowing nearly 30 points is a little much.

San Francisco 49ers Just Keep Winning
San Francisco is 5-0 and has won all three home games. The 49ers had quite an afternoon in Seattle last Sunday, coming away with a 32-29 victory. It wasn’t exactly clean football. San Francisco turned the ball over three times, but the defense made up for it with five sacks, four takeaways and a touchdown of its own. That’ll help. The 49ers also got some important plays from their special teams, which made things easier on an offense that wasn’t having its best day. San Francisco had beaten Denver 24-14 the week before and knocked off Arizona 36-30 before that. Kyle Shanahan has to like being undefeated, especially with all the injuries his team has been dealing with. But I wouldn’t expect him to be happy about three turnovers against Seattle. You keep doing that, and eventually somebody makes you pay. Washington hasn’t been particularly good at making opponents pay for mistakes, though.
The 49ers are averaging 30.8 points per game while allowing only 18.6. That’s a pretty nice combination. San Francisco is getting 367.8 total offensive yards per game, including 239.2 passing and 128.6 rushing. The offense has been especially good on third down, converting 51.9% of its chances. That’s a big difference from Washington, which is sitting at 31.9%. The defense has been solid, too. San Francisco allows around 200 passing yards and 97.6 rushing yards per game, depending on the statistical source. The 49ers have recorded 11 sacks and three interceptions. I like what this team has been doing on both sides of the football. It doesn’t mean San Francisco is unbeatable. Seattle scored 29 last Sunday and gave the 49ers plenty of trouble. But Washington has been allowing 29.8 points per contest. Give Purdy that kind of defense to work against, and I think San Francisco will move the ball just fine.
Purdy has thrown for 1,196 yards with 13 touchdowns and two interceptions. Thirteen touchdowns in five games. That’s getting the job done. He threw for 189 yards and two scores against Seattle, which wasn’t his biggest game, but the 49ers didn’t need him to throw for 350. Christian McCaffrey has rushed for 286 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 4.7 yards per carry. Mike Evans leads the receivers with 24 catches for 326 yards and three touchdowns. George Kittle has also caught four touchdown passes, giving Purdy another target around the end zone. Fred Warner leads the defense with 50 tackles, while Keion White has recorded three sacks. The injuries are worth watching. Deebo Samuel is expected to miss time with a hamstring injury, and Dre Greenlaw will sit out Monday because of a one-game suspension. Greenlaw has 37 tackles this season, so that’s a meaningful absence. Nick Bosa has also been dealing with a knee injury. San Francisco isn’t completely healthy. But with Purdy, McCaffrey and Kittle available, I still like what the offense can do against Washington.
Washington Commanders vs San Francisco 49ers Picks and Predictions
Against the Spread Pick: San Francisco 49ers -7.5
I’m laying the 7.5 points with San Francisco. I know. That’s more than a touchdown, and Washington has Daniels back. He just ran for 103 yards against the Giants, so I’m not pretending the Commanders have no chance to move the ball. But look at these defenses. San Francisco is allowing 18.6 points per game. Washington is giving up 29.8. Purdy has 13 touchdown passes, and the 49ers are converting more than half of their third downs. Washington can barely get off the field against an average offense. What’s it going to do against Shanahan? The 49ers are missing Samuel, and Greenlaw’s suspension hurts the defense. Daniels could make things uncomfortable if he gets outside the pocket. I get that. But Washington just blew a 14-point lead against the Giants, and San Francisco has been finding ways to win even when it makes mistakes. I think the 49ers get ahead and make the Commanders chase them. That’s not where Washington wants to be. Give me San Francisco -7.5.
Total Pick: Under 50.5 Points
I’m taking Under 50.5. San Francisco could score 30 by itself. That’s the scary part. The 49ers are averaging 30.8, and Washington has been giving up almost that many. But how much is Washington going to score against this defense? The Commanders average 23 points, and San Francisco is allowing only 18.6. Daniels could make a couple of big plays with his legs, especially with Greenlaw out. That’s what worries me. San Francisco also gave up 29 against Seattle, so it’s not like the defense can’t be beaten. But the 49ers have been pretty good against the run, and Washington’s passing game hasn’t been producing much. I also expect Shanahan to give McCaffrey plenty of work if San Francisco gets ahead. Why wouldn’t he? Washington has been having trouble getting stops, and long drives will keep that clock moving. The weather could play a small part if the wind picks up, although I’m not counting on that to save an under. I think the 49ers win without needing another wild finish. Something like 30-17 sounds right to me. I’ll take Under 50.5.
Final Picks: San Francisco 49ers -7.5 and Under 50.5 Points.
