Aston Villa vs Manchester City Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 24 2026
Manchester City have won seven straight league matches, and I suppose we’re all meant to act surprised when somebody finally gives them a game. Ipswich did that last Saturday. Scored twice against City, made things uncomfortable, and still went home with nothing. Erling Haaland scored twice, City won 3-2, and Enzo Maresca had another three points to put in the bank.
Villa might fancy their chances after winning at Newcastle. Two league wins on the bounce have given them something to feel good about, although beating City is another matter. There’s a difference between finding your feet and taking points off a side that’s won every league match it’s played.
Aston Villa hosts Manchester City at Villa Park in Birmingham on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Kickoff is at 7:30 AM ET. City are around -146 on the moneyline, Villa are +340, and the draw is +330. The total is 2.5 goals. Get in on all the action with our free soccer picks.
Aston Villa Have Finally Started Winning
Villa are 2-2-3 with eight points from seven league matches. They beat Newcastle 1-0 last Saturday, with Johan Manzambi scoring in the 35th minute. It wasn’t a game where Villa blew anybody away, but they defended their lead and got out of St James’ Park with three points. That’s a good result. They’d beaten Tottenham 3-2 the week before, so at least things are moving in the right direction after a poor start.

Unai Emery will have spent plenty of time thinking about how to handle City’s possession. The visitors are averaging around 71% of the ball, which means Villa could spend long stretches chasing it. That’s exhausting, and it only takes one mistake for Haaland to get a chance. Villa have a negative-four goal difference, so their defending hasn’t exactly been spotless. They can’t afford to get stretched out, but they also need to offer something going forward. Sitting in their own penalty area for 90 minutes isn’t much of a plan.
Nicolas Jackson has two league goals, and John McGinn remains one of Villa’s most useful players when they need to move the ball upfield. Manzambi has been in good form, contributing three goals and two assists over his last four appearances in all competitions. He picked up a knock against Newcastle, though, and that needs checking. Aaron Wan-Bissaka suffered a hamstring injury and is expected to miss several weeks. Amadou Onana and Matteo Ruggeri are also sidelined. Emery could really use a few more healthy bodies for this one.
Manchester City Have Been Getting The Job Done
City are 7-0-0 with 21 points. Seven games, seven wins. They’ve already opened up a six-point lead over Arsenal, although the Gunners have a match in hand. Last Saturday’s 3-2 win over Ipswich wasn’t particularly convincing, but Haaland scored twice and City found a way through. That’s what good teams do. They win even when they’re not at their best.
City’s possession numbers are ridiculous. Around 71% per match, with roughly 13 shots. They can keep the ball for ages, move defenders around, and then suddenly find Haaland standing in front of goal. Villa will probably try to crowd the middle and force City wide. That’s sensible enough, but City have players who can hurt you from the wings too. The visitors have also conceded fewer than one league goal per game, so Villa may not get many chances of their own.
Haaland has six league goals after scoring twice against Ipswich. He picked up a foot and ankle knock, and his status is worth checking before kickoff. Antoine Semenyo has two goals and three assists, but he’s expected to miss several weeks with a knee injury. Phil Foden and Jérémy Doku give City plenty of attacking options, even with those concerns. That’s the frustrating thing about playing City. You might stop one guy, and there’s somebody else ready to cause trouble.
Aston Villa vs Manchester City Picks and Predictions
Manchester City Moneyline (-146)
I’ll take City, although -146 isn’t exactly giving anything away. Villa have won two straight, and Emery is good at making life difficult for stronger teams. But City have been winning every week, and Villa are missing some important players. If Haaland plays, I like the visitors even more. His six goals are a problem for a Villa defense that’s already been inconsistent. City have too much quality through midfield and too many ways to score. I’ll lay the price.
Over 2.5 Goals
I’m going over 2.5. City scored three against Ipswich, and Villa have shown they can score too, especially in that 3-2 win over Tottenham. Villa Park should be lively, and I don’t think the home side will be content to sit back all afternoon. That could open things up for City. Emery may try to slow the game down, but once somebody scores, the other side will have to come forward. I can see City getting three and Villa nicking one. Manchester City 3, Aston Villa 1.
