Chelsea vs Manchester United Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 31 2026
Somebody wants to take Manchester United because it’s Manchester United. Fine. But which version of United are we talking about? The club with all that history, or the one Bournemouth just beat 3-0 at Old Trafford?
Because I’m betting on the teams playing Saturday, not the names on their shirts.
Chelsea welcomes United to Stamford Bridge in London for an 8:30 AM ET kickoff. Chelsea is priced around -120 to -125 to win, and Over 2.5 goals is available around -165. The Blues have their own problems, so I’m not pretending this is some automatic home win. Still, if you’re asking me which side I’d rather have, it’s Chelsea. Chelsea Has Enough Going Forward to Win This
Chelsea is fifth in the Premier League with 13 points from eight matches. Four wins, one draw and three losses. Not bad, although last weekend’s 2-0 home defeat to Tottenham wasn’t exactly encouraging. The Blues also went out of the League Cup on penalties against Liverpool during the week. So there’s a little pressure on Chelsea too. A team trying to stay near the top four can’t keep dropping points at home.

Here’s what I like about Chelsea. When the attack gets moving, they can make a defense look pretty ordinary. They put five past Bournemouth and three past Brentford earlier this season. They also went to Everton and won 2-0. The problem is they haven’t always defended well themselves. That leaves the door open for United, especially if Chelsea starts throwing too many players forward. But I’d rather take my chances with Chelsea’s attack against this United back line than the other way around.
Joao Pedro has five league goals, although his knee injury is a concern. Morgan Rogers has four, and Cole Palmer has chipped in two goals and three assists. That’s enough attacking talent to cause trouble even if Pedro can’t play. Reece James and Jamie Gittens are also among the absentees, so Chelsea isn’t exactly healthy. But the Blues still have players who can beat a defender and create something. United has been having trouble dealing with that kind of movement.
Manchester United Is Running Out of Excuses
United is 16th. One win in eight league games, four draws and three losses. Seven points. That’s a miserable start for a club that expects to be competing near the top of the table. And things haven’t improved lately. United drew with Leeds, lost heavily to Bournemouth and hasn’t won in eight matches across all competitions. Michael Carrick is under pressure, and I don’t see a trip to Stamford Bridge making his week any easier.
The defending is what gets me. United has managed just one clean sheet in 12 matches across all competitions. You can survive a few bad attacking nights if you’re keeping teams out. United isn’t doing that. The midfield has also been struggling to protect the defense, and opponents have been finding room to attack. Chelsea has the players to take advantage. United might score, because Chelsea isn’t exactly shutting everybody down either, but I don’t trust them to keep the Blues quiet.
Bryan Mbeumo has four league goals, and Bruno Fernandes has three. There’s talent in this team. Nobody is arguing otherwise. But Fernandes was left out of the starting lineup against Bournemouth after publicly questioning the tactics, and that’s another distraction United doesn’t need. Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu, Manuel Ugarte and Luke Shaw are also on the injury list. Carrick has decisions to make, and none of them look particularly easy.
Chelsea vs Manchester United Picks and Predictions
Chelsea Moneyline (-120)
I’m taking Chelsea. United could absolutely get a draw here. They’ve already drawn four league games, and Chelsea has a habit of making things harder than necessary. But United hasn’t been defending well enough, and the Blues have several players who can create chances against a struggling back line. I don’t need Chelsea to dominate possession for 90 minutes. I need them to make the better chances count. At home, against a United side that just lost 3-0 to Bournemouth, that’s where my money goes.
Over 2.5 Goals (-165)
I’ll take Over 2.5, although that price isn’t cheap. Chelsea has the attacking talent to score twice on its own, and United has kept only one clean sheet all season across competitions. The other side of it is Chelsea’s defense. The Blues have given opponents chances, and United still has enough quality to score one. That’s why I like this better than trying to pick a winning margin. If United gets a goal, Chelsea probably needs at least two to win anyway. I can see a 2-1 Chelsea result, maybe even 3-1 if United starts chasing the game.
