AT&T Stadium in Arlington hosts Group J's dead rubber at 9:00 PM ET as Jordan close out their historic debut World Cup campaign against the reigning champions Argentina. Argentina have already sealed top spot in Group J with a perfect six points and a +5 goal difference, meaning this fixture is a dead rubber for Lionel Scaloni's side in terms of qualification. For Jordan, defeat ends their debut World Cup with three losses from three — but a historic first win, or even a first goal, would give the nation something genuine to carry home from their maiden appearance on the grandest stage in football. Jordan and Argentina have never previously met at international level — this fixture at AT&T Stadium on June 27 is the first encounter between the two nations at a World Cup and indeed the first meeting anywhere on record. Read on to find out how this Group J finale plays out in our Jordan vs. Argentina prediction. Get our top World Cup Predictions and increase your bankroll.

Argentina: Records in Reach

Argentina are already through and top of Group J with a perfect six points, meaning this match is a dead rubber for Scaloni's side in terms of qualification — though goal difference could yet become relevant if Austria and Algeria cancel each other out in Kansas City. Messi, whose five goals in two World Cup 2026 matches have already pushed his finals record into extraordinary territory, is the obvious box-office draw for a sold-out AT&T Stadium crowd. The temptation to protect him physically will be real; equally, Argentina's intensity rarely drops regardless of rotations under Scaloni.

Argentina have won all five of their last five matches, scoring 15 goals and conceding none in that run. Their most recent outing was a 2-0 win over Austria, in which Messi scored twice. They also beat Algeria 3-0 in their World Cup opener and recorded a 5-0 friendly victory over Zambia in March — an extraordinary clean-sheet run that underscores both the organization Scaloni has built and the quality throughout the squad. For Argentina, with qualification secured, Scaloni faces a selection dilemma: does he rest key figures ahead of the knockout rounds or let Messi, Lautaro Martínez, and Julián Álvarez add to their already impressive tournament tallies?

Messi operated seamlessly behind the striker against Austria, putting on a spectacular show with a two-goal masterclass. To break down Jordan's physically imposing defensive shape, Messi's role will be paramount — his intelligent movement, world-class dribbling, and sharp vision to stretch opposition center backs and drag markers out of position, opening up vital final-third channels for wide threats like Thiago Almada to exploit. Lautaro Martínez has eight goals in Argentina's recent competitive run-in and will be motivated to make his mark in a group match that gives him minutes and rhythm heading into the knockout rounds.

Jordan: Al-Taamari the Last Star, Sellami's Warriors Bow Out with Pride

Jordan are making their first-ever World Cup appearance, and this final group game against the reigning champions is their last chance to register something historic on the biggest stage football has. Jordan's debutant status is genuinely historic — they qualified through the AFC playoff route, clinching a place at the finals with a 3-0 away win over Oman. Striker Ali Olwan etched his name into Jordanian football history by scoring the country's first World Cup goal — but the team around him has struggled badly against the tournament's higher-grade opposition, conceding three to Austria and two to Algeria.

Jordan have lost all four of their last five matches, drawing only once — a 2-2 friendly against Nigeria in March. Their most recent result was a 2-1 defeat to Algeria in their second World Cup group game, with Amine Gouiri's late goal ending their hopes of progressing. They also fell 3-1 to Austria and 2-0 to Colombia in a June friendly. Across their last five matches, Jordan scored five goals and conceded 11.

Musa Al-Taamari against Argentina's right side will be the most revealing duel on the pitch. The Rennes winger is Jordan's most technically accomplished player and the one most capable of unsettling a high defensive line on the counter. With two goals in recent games and 92 caps worth of experience, he carries the creative responsibility for a Jordan side that will set up in a compact 4-2-3-1, invite pressure, and look to spring Al-Taamari in transition. Jordan's best hope is to stay compact, limit Argentina's angles in behind, and find the odd moment on the counter through Al-Taamari — head coach Sellami will know that a low block and disciplined shape gave Algeria and Austria problems in earlier rounds, but Argentina are a different proposition entirely, with the pace and movement to break down even the most stubborn defense.

Jordan vs. Argentina Picks

  • Match Result Pick: Argentina -1.5

Even with one eye on the knockouts, Argentina have far too much for a Jordan side that is already out. Expect a controlled, comfortable win, with the only intrigue around how heavily the champions choose to rotate.

  • Over/Under Pick: Over 3.5 Goals

Combining Argentina to win with over 3 goals in the match ties the main angles together — each leg has strong statistical backing. The reigning South American champions sit near the top of the World Cup 2026 outright odds board, and the market expects them to handle this comfortably regardless of who starts. Argentina scored three against Algeria, two against Austria, and have averaged three goals per match across their last five competitive outings — all against opposition considerably more organized than a Jordan side that has given up five goals in two World Cup appearances. With Messi hunting the tournament's Golden Boot, Martínez needing rhythm, and Álvarez chasing minutes before the knockouts, the attacking intent from Argentina will be genuine and sustained.
