Manchester City vs Brighton & Hove Albion Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 31 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 10/30/2026, 08:05 PM ET

Manchester City and Brighton just played Wednesday, and it took penalties to separate them. Two goals each in regulation, plenty of chances, and City eventually went through in the League Cup.

Now they get to do it all over again.

And I know Brighton is having a terrific season. Third place after eight games is no accident. But I’m still taking City at home. They’ve won seven of their first eight Premier League matches, and one defeat at Aston Villa doesn’t suddenly make them a bad team.

City hosts Brighton at Etihad Stadium in Manchester on Saturday, October 31, with kickoff at 11:00 AM ET. Both teams are near the top of the league, so this is a much more interesting matchup than the usual City home game. I like Manchester City to win, and I think we’ll see goals from both sides. Manchester City Still Has Plenty Going for It

City is 7-0-1 with 21 points, level with Arsenal at the top of the Premier League. The perfect league start ended last weekend with a 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa. That was disappointing, but look at what City had done before it. Seven straight league victories, including a 3-0 win at Liverpool. They also scored five against AEK Athens in the Champions League. One bad league result doesn’t erase all of that.

City has scored 20 league goals and allowed nine. That’s 2.5 goals a game, and the attacking numbers are even better at home. The defense hasn’t always been as convincing. City has conceded in three of its four home league matches, which gives Brighton a real chance to score. But when City starts moving the ball around the penalty area, there aren’t many teams that can keep up. Brighton likes to play football rather than simply defend for 90 minutes. That could make this an entertaining afternoon.

Erling Haaland has nine league goals, and he’s still the player defenders spend most of the match worrying about. Rayan Cherki has four goals and has created plenty of chances for his teammates. City has several ways to hurt opponents, which is why I don’t worry too much about one player having an off day. Antoine Semenyo is dealing with a knee injury, but City otherwise looks relatively healthy. That’s another advantage after both clubs had a midweek cup match.

Brighton Has Earned Its Place Near the Top

Brighton is third with 16 points from eight games. Five wins, one draw and two losses. That’s an excellent start, and the Seagulls have been scoring plenty themselves. They hammered Crystal Palace 5-0 earlier this month and beat Sunderland 2-0 away from home. Last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Liverpool was a setback, but Brighton responded by taking City to penalties Wednesday. That tells me they’re not intimidated by this opponent.

The Seagulls have been averaging nearly three goals a league game while allowing fewer than one. Those are impressive numbers. Their attack has been dangerous when it gets space, and they’ve been much better defensively than many people expected. The problem Saturday is that City will have more of the ball, and Brighton might not get as many chances to attack. The visitors need to be careful about giving possession away near their own penalty area. City will punish those mistakes.

Brighton is dealing with some important injuries. Kaoru Mitoma has a hamstring problem, Evan Ferguson is out with an ankle injury, and Ferdi Kadioglu has been dealing with a hip issue. Stefanos Tzimas is also unavailable. That’s a few attacking and defensive options missing for a game where Brighton needs almost everything to go right. They still have enough talent to cause trouble, and Wednesday proved it. But repeating that performance three days later won’t be easy.

Manchester City vs Brighton & Hove Albion Picks and Predictions

Manchester City Moneyline

I’m taking City. Brighton has been excellent, and I wouldn’t argue with anybody who thinks this could finish level. Wednesday’s 2-2 cup match showed how competitive these clubs can be. But City is 7-1 in the league, has Haaland scoring at better than a goal a game, and gets the rematch at home. Brighton has some important injuries, too. I think the visitors will make City work, probably more than most teams do at the Etihad. But over 90 minutes, I trust City’s attacking options to produce one more goal.

Over 2.5 Goals

I’ll take Over 2.5. These teams just combined for four goals Wednesday, and both have been scoring well in the Premier League. City averages 2.5 goals, Brighton nearly three. That’s a lot of attacking quality on the pitch. The risk is obvious: both managers saw what happened in the cup game and might make adjustments to keep things tighter. But I don’t see either side sitting back for an entire match. Brighton will have chances, and City should create plenty at home. A 2-1 City win is my call, although 3-1 wouldn’t surprise me.
