Manchester City vs Ipswich Town Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 17 2026
Ipswich Town heads to Manchester on Saturday, October 17, 2026, to face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Kickoff is at 10:00 AM ET, with NBC and Peacock carrying the match in the United States. City just went into Anfield and beat Liverpool 3-0. Ipswich needed two late goals to get past Fulham 2-1. Manchester City is favored around -550 on the three-way moneyline, and the total is sitting at 3.5 goals. I’m taking City to win by at least two. Look, I know Ipswich just won. Good for them. But City hasn’t dropped a single league point. Six matches, six wins. And Haaland is scoring again. I don’t see Ipswich having much fun Saturday.
Ipswich Town Have A Much Bigger Problem This Week
Ipswich is 3-0-3 in the Premier League and sitting on nine points. Not terrible for a club trying to find its feet. The latest win came against Fulham, 2-1, and that was a strange one. Ipswich trailed 1-0 late, equalized in the 88th minute, then scored again in stoppage time. Two goals right at the end. Imagine being a Fulham supporter watching that. Ipswich also beat Crystal Palace 3-2 earlier in the season, so they’ve had some decent moments. But they’ve lost to Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton. Now they get Manchester City. At the Etihad. That’s quite a jump from beating Fulham with a couple of late goals.
Ipswich has scored nine goals in six league matches and allowed 12. Two goals conceded per game. That’s the number I’d be worried about. City has scored 16 and only allowed five. Ipswich isn’t hopeless going forward. They’ve put three past Palace and two past Fulham. But they’re giving up too many chances. Manchester United scored five against them. Liverpool won 2-0. And now they’re facing a City side that just shut out Liverpool at Anfield. I think Ipswich spends plenty of Saturday chasing the ball. Maybe they get a counterattack or two. They’re going to need more than that to win this.
Emersonn has two league goals and has created five chances. He’s been useful up front, although he probably won’t see as much of the ball Saturday. Julio Enciso has been making chances as well, while Leif Davis has contributed from the back. Gary O’Neil will need everybody working defensively. Issahaku Fatawu is expected to miss the match through suspension, although there’s been some conflicting reporting about when that ban ends. That’s worth checking. Jack Taylor has also been dealing with a knee issue. Ipswich could use Fatawu’s pace on the break because I don’t see them winning a possession battle against City. Get the ball, move it quickly, hope somebody finishes. That’s probably their best shot.

Manchester City Are Making It Look Too Easy
Manchester City is 6-0-0. Eighteen points from six matches. Can’t ask for much more than that. The latest win was a 3-0 beating of Liverpool at Anfield. Haaland scored, Jérémy Doku added another, and Rayan Cherki finished the job. Three goals away to Liverpool, and a clean sheet to go with it. Not bad. City also beat Sunderland 5-3 and Manchester United 1-0 before that. Enzo Maresca has this team playing some pretty good football. City did lose 4-2 to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday, though. That’s something to think about. Two days to recover before Ipswich comes to town. I’d expect a few changes to the lineup. Still, if you’re Ipswich, I’m not sure how much comfort you take from that.
City has scored 16 league goals and allowed five. That’s 2.67 scored per match and less than one conceded. They’re also averaging around 71% possession. Seventy-one percent! That’s a lot of time making the other team run around. Ipswich has allowed 12 goals already, and I don’t see it enjoying that much defending. City has three clean sheets in six matches, too. The only thing that gives me some pause is the quick turnaround after PSG. City might not be interested in running up the score if it gets ahead early. And Ipswich could sit ten men behind the ball for most of the afternoon. That can make things frustrating. But City has been finding ways through defenses all season.
Haaland has six league goals from 22 shots. Six already. And he scored twice against PSG on Wednesday, so it’s not like he’s cooling off. Cherki has four league goals and has created 14 chances. Antoine Semenyo has three assists, giving City another player who can cause trouble. That’s a lot for Ipswich to worry about. Gianluigi Donnarumma has helped City keep three clean sheets, while Rúben Dias and Marc Guéhi have been solid in front of him. The squad looks fairly healthy going into Saturday, although I’d keep an eye on the lineup after that Champions League match. Maresca has options. If somebody needs a rest, there’s another good player waiting. Ipswich doesn’t have that kind of luxury.
Manchester City vs Ipswich Town Picks and Predictions
Handicap Pick: Manchester City -1.5 Goals
I’m taking City -1.5. The regular moneyline is around -550. I’m not laying that. What are we doing here, betting five dollars to win one? No thanks. I’ll take City to win by two or more. Ipswich has allowed 12 goals in six matches, and Manchester United already put five past them. City just scored three at Liverpool. Three! Haaland has six league goals, Cherki has four, and Ipswich could be missing Fatawu. I know City just played PSG on Wednesday. That’s the concern. Maybe Maresca rests a few players, and maybe City takes its foot off the gas after getting ahead. A 1-0 win wouldn’t shock me if Ipswich defends well. But I don’t think that back line holds up for 90 minutes. City has too much going forward. I’m taking Manchester City -1.5 goals.
Total Pick: Under 3.5 Goals (-108)
I’ll take Under 3.5 goals at around -108. I know, I just told you City could score three. They absolutely could. They put five past Sunderland and three past Liverpool. But four goals is a lot, especially with City coming off that Champions League game Wednesday. If Maresca gets a two-goal lead, why wear everybody out? Keep the ball, make Ipswich chase it and get through the afternoon. Ipswich has scored nine goals in six matches, but City’s defense has allowed only five. I don’t see the visitors contributing much here. The thing that worries me is an early goal. If City scores twice in the first 20 minutes, this could get ugly fast. And Ipswich has conceded five in a match already. Still, I’m thinking City gets ahead and controls the game rather than turning it into a track meet. Something like 3-0 sounds right. Give me the under.
Final Picks: Manchester City -1.5 Goals and Under 3.5 Goals (-108).
