The 2026 FIFA World Cup continues with a crucial Group I matchup on Monday, June 22, as Norway takes on Senegal in a game that could determine who advances alongside France. Get in on the action with our free World Cup picks.

Norway enters this match with confidence after an impressive opening performance, defeating Iraq 4-1 behind a dominant attacking display. Senegal, meanwhile, will be looking to respond after a difficult 3-1 defeat against France, a match where they competed well but ultimately fell short against one of the tournament favorites.

This matchup is especially important because both teams have realistic knockout-stage ambitions. A win for Norway would put them in an excellent position heading into the final group match, while Senegal cannot afford another defeat.

The contrast in styles makes this one of the most fascinating games in the group. Norway brings one of the most dangerous strikers in world football and a direct attacking approach, while Senegal relies on athleticism, defensive strength, and physical pressure.

Read on to find out which side has the edge in our Norway vs. Senegal prediction.

Norway: Haaland and Elite Finishing Put Them in Control

Norway entered the tournament with expectations of finally making a deep World Cup run, and their opening match showed exactly why they are considered a dangerous team.

The centerpiece of everything Norway does is Erling Haaland. The Manchester City striker remains one of the most dominant goal scorers in the world, and his combination of strength, speed, and finishing ability makes him a constant threat.

Against Iraq, Norway’s attack consistently created dangerous opportunities, and Haaland’s movement opened space for the players around him. His ability to occupy multiple defenders creates opportunities for midfield runners and wide attackers.

Martin Ødegaard remains another key piece. The Arsenal midfielder provides creativity, technical quality, and the ability to control the tempo. His passing range allows Norway to transition quickly from defense into attack.

Defensively, Norway showed improvement in their opening match but still allowed opportunities. Against Senegal’s athletic attack, they will need to avoid giving away space behind their defensive line.

The biggest advantage for Norway is their ability to punish mistakes. Senegal is a team that likes to press and compete physically, but turnovers in dangerous areas against Norway can become immediate scoring chances.

Senegal: Physical Powerhouse Looking for a Bounce Back

Senegal enters this match needing a result after their opening loss to France, but the performance itself provided reasons for optimism.

Despite losing 3-1, Senegal competed well against one of the deepest teams in the tournament. Their athleticism, defensive organization, and ability to pressure opponents caused problems for France at times.

The attack is built around pace and physicality. Players like Ismaïla Sarr provide direct running ability, while Senegal’s midfield is capable of disrupting opponents through energy and aggressive pressing.

The biggest challenge against Norway will be limiting Haaland’s influence. Senegal cannot allow Norway’s midfielders time to deliver service into dangerous areas, meaning their defensive shape must remain compact.

Senegal’s best path to success is turning the game into a physical battle. If they can slow the pace, win second balls, and force Norway into uncomfortable situations, they have the talent to compete.

However, their finishing must improve. Against France, Senegal created moments but lacked the final touch needed to punish a top opponent.

Norway vs. Senegal Picks

  • Match Result Pick: Norway Moneyline

Norway has the advantage because of their attacking ceiling.

Senegal is capable of making this a difficult match, but Norway’s ability to create goals through Haaland and Ødegaard gives them the difference-maker that Senegal lacks.

After scoring four goals in their opener, Norway should have enough attacking quality to find a breakthrough against Senegal’s defense.

  • Over/Under Pick: Over 2.5 Goals

This matchup sets up well for goals.

Norway has one of the most dangerous attacks in the tournament, while Senegal showed against France that they can create chances even against elite competition.

A defensive, low-scoring game would favor Senegal, but both teams have enough attacking talent to produce an open match.

Expect chances on both sides.

Take the Over.
