Switzerland vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina Picks and Prediction for Thursday, June 18, 2026

By: Garrett Beaverson Updated 06/17/2026, 10:03 PM ET

Group B has produced one of the tournament's most remarkable early storylines, all four teams level on one point after opening draws, and SoFi Stadium in Inglewood serves as the stage for the match that will likely break the logjam. Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina kick off at 3:00 PM ET in a fixture that functions as a six-pointer in every meaningful sense. Switzerland opened with a 1-1 draw against Qatar after conceding a dramatic 93rd-minute own goal despite having 26 shots to Qatar's six, while Bosnia and Herzegovina held co-hosts Canada to a 1-1 draw in Toronto. A win here sends the victor into the final matchday in the driver's seat for advancement. Read on to find out who takes control in our Switzerland vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina prediction. Switzerland are installed as -165 favorites, with Bosnia and Herzegovina available at +525 and the draw at +320.

Switzerland: Hurt by Late Drama, Backed by Deeper Quality

Switzerland topped UEFA qualifying Group B unbeaten, four wins and two draws, 14 points from six matches, scoring 14 goals and conceding just two, and arrived in North America as the clear Group B favorite before being ambushed by Qatar's late equalizer in Santa Clara. The sting of dropped points will fuel a response, and the quality Murat Yakin has at his disposal is not in doubt.

Captain Granit Xhaka leads the squad with 145 international caps in what is his fourth World Cup, Switzerland's record appearance-maker who sets the tempo from deep, screens the back line, and dictates how the Nati move through midfield. Manuel Akanji anchors the defense from Inter Milan — a center-back who reads danger early, steps out with the ball with composure, and uses his pace to let Switzerland defend a high line without fear. Breel Embolo leads the squad with 24 international goals and was Switzerland's top scorer in qualifying with four, converting a penalty to put the Swiss ahead against Qatar before the late capitulation. Young Freiburg forward Johan Manzambi, just 20 years old and earning his place off the back of a Europa League final run, adds a dynamic dimension off the bench, giving Yakin attacking options he can deploy as the game opens up.

Yakin has recorded 20 clean sheets across his first 57 matches as Switzerland coach, and the Qatar opener, despite the late heartbreak, showed a side that controlled every meaningful statistic for 92 minutes. Switzerland have lost just one of their last 15 matches and have opened the scoring in six of their last seven competitive fixtures, with the structure and experience to handle the pressure of a must-win atmosphere in Los Angeles.

Bosnia and Herzegovina: Nine Unbeaten

This is Bosnia and Herzegovina's second World Cup appearance as an independent nation, their first since 2014, and they arrived having qualified through one of the most unlikely routes in the tournament's history, upsetting Wales and Italy on penalties in back-to-back playoff matches under first-time international manager Sergej Barbarez. Bosnia enter having gone nine matches unbeaten, with their last defeat coming back in September, a remarkable run of resilience that has carried them into this tournament.

The concern is the pattern within that unbeaten run. Bosnia have drawn each of their last six matches, five of them by a 1-1 scoreline, suggesting a side that is extraordinarily difficult to beat but equally struggles to close out games when they take the lead. The Canada opener demonstrated that discipline clearly: they scored through a well-worked corner routine via Jovo Lukić but conceded late in the second half to Cyle Larin to share the points, replaying the same narrative that has defined their recent form.

Edin Džeko captains the side at 40 years old with 148 caps and 73 international goals, the most decorated player in Bosnian football history, and will look to hold the ball and bring teammates into play against a Swiss defense that likes to push its line high. Ermedin Demirović of VfB Stuttgart is expected to provide the mobile support behind Džeko in attack, while teenage New England Revolution forward Esmir Bajraktarević offers the pace Bosnia can use on transitions if Switzerland push too high. Amar Dedić of Benfica provides quality at right back and Atalanta's Sead Kolašinac brings experienced defensive cover at left back, but the overall squad depth, concentrated heavily in the Bosnian domestic league, is not remotely comparable to what Switzerland bring to this game.

Switzerland vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina Picks

  • Match Result Pick: Switzerland

Switzerland dominated Qatar statistically for 92 minutes and were denied by an own goal, not by any failing of their system or quality. Bosnia's draw tendency, while admirable, is a vulnerability against a side with Xhaka's tactical intelligence and Embolo's finishing ability at center forward. Take Switzerland to win and take control of Group B heading into the final matchday.

  • Over/Under Pick: Over 2.5 Goals

Both sides have scored in six of Switzerland's last seven matches, and Bosnia have scored in their last 12 competitive fixtures. The context demands both teams commit forward, Switzerland cannot afford another draw and will press relentlessly, while Bosnia know a draw leaves them reliant on other results and must come out of their defensive shell to keep their advancement hopes alive. Switzerland's pre-tournament 4-1 win over Jordan showed their attacking quality when space is available, and an open, high-stakes game at SoFi Stadium between two teams that both need something from this match is the ideal setting for goals. Take the Over 2.5 goals at plus money.
