Atlanta Dream vs Golden State Valkyries Picks and Prediction for Monday October 19 2026
Atlanta had Game 1 sitting right there for the taking. The Dream led by five going into the fourth quarter, had Golden State struggling to hit shots, and still managed to lose 68-64. Eight points in the final quarter. That’s going to sting for a while. Now they’re back at Chase Center on Monday, trying to avoid going home down 2-0 in the WNBA Finals.
Game 2 tips off at 8:00 PM ET on USA Network and Peacock. Golden State is favored by 2.5 points, with the total sitting around 151.5. The Valkyries have already beaten Atlanta four times this season, including Saturday’s opener. That’s a tough number for the Dream to look at, but Game 1 was close enough that I’m not ready to hand Golden State another win. Check out our free WNBA picks for more predictions.
Atlanta Dream Let A Good One Get Away
Atlanta came into the Finals having won five straight playoff games. The Dream swept Washington and New York, and nobody had found a way to beat them in the postseason. Then came Saturday. Atlanta led for much of the afternoon, took a five-point advantage into the fourth quarter, and couldn’t finish. The Dream shot 32.8% from the floor and made only one field goal over the final 7:16. That’s how you lose a championship game you had under control.
The defense wasn’t the problem. Atlanta held Golden State to 32.1% shooting and just seven makes on 33 attempts from beyond the arc. You’d expect to win most nights with those numbers. But the Dream couldn’t get a basket when they needed one, and Golden State won the rebounding battle 57-47. Ten extra rebounds is a lot to give away in a four-point game. Atlanta needs to get more second chances of its own instead of watching the Valkyries collect missed shots.

The Dream also have to find some offense late. They scored just eight points in the fourth quarter, and that’s not going to cut it against a defense like Golden State’s. Atlanta had the ball down two in the final minute and couldn’t get a decent shot. The Dream don’t need to change everything after one loss. They played well enough to win for three quarters. But they can’t spend another fourth quarter throwing up difficult jumpers and hoping one goes in.
Golden State Valkyries Know How To Finish
Golden State is three wins away from a championship in just its second season. That’s a pretty good story, but the Valkyries aren’t interested in being anybody’s feel-good headline right now. They want the trophy. Saturday’s 68-64 win wasn’t pretty. Golden State trailed for much of the game, struggled from the perimeter, and needed a big fourth-quarter comeback. But the Valkyries got the stops and made the free throws when it mattered. That’s what counts in October.
Golden State shot 32.1% overall and 21.2% from three-point range in Game 1. Those are ugly shooting numbers for a winning team. The difference was defense and rebounding. The Valkyries held Atlanta to eight fourth-quarter points, won the boards by ten, and finished on a 17-6 run. They didn’t suddenly start making every jumper. They just made life miserable for Atlanta. Golden State has now won all four meetings with the Dream this season, and that defensive approach has been a big part of it.
The Valkyries also have to be careful about assuming Game 2 will go the same way. Atlanta isn’t going to shoot poorly forever, and Golden State can’t count on another fourth-quarter collapse from the Dream. The home crowd will be loud, and the Valkyries have been excellent at Chase Center. But this is the Finals. A couple of missed free throws or a bad turnover can change everything. Golden State needs a better start than it had Saturday.
Atlanta Dream vs Golden State Valkyries Picks and Prediction
Atlanta Dream +2.5 (-110)
I’ll take Atlanta and the 2.5 points. Golden State has won all four meetings this season, so I know what I’m going against. The Valkyries are also at home, and they’ve been tough to beat there. But Atlanta led for most of Game 1 and lost by four despite shooting only 32.8%. The Dream held Golden State to 32.1% and had a five-point lead entering the fourth quarter. They weren’t outplayed for the entire afternoon. They just fell apart late. I expect a better offensive finish Monday. Golden State might still win, but I think Atlanta has a good shot at taking Game 2 outright. Give me the Dream and the points.
Under 151.5 Points (-110)
I’m taking the under 151.5. Saturday’s game finished with 132 combined points, nearly 20 below this number. Both teams shot around 32%, and neither found much room around the basket. Now, I don’t expect another game where both clubs miss almost everything. Some of those shots are going to fall Monday. But the defense wasn’t a fluke. Golden State made Atlanta work for every possession, and the Dream did much the same thing at the other end. This is a championship series between two teams that can really defend. I think we get a better offensive game than Saturday, but not 152 points. Something around 74-71 sounds about right.
Final Picks: Atlanta Dream +2.5 (-110) and Under 151.5 Points (-110)
