Golden State Valkyries vs Atlanta Dream Picks and Prediction for Wednesday October 21 2026
Golden State scored nine points in the third quarter Monday. Nine. In a WNBA Finals game. That’s the sort of thing that’ll have a coach staring at the stat sheet long after everybody else has gone home.
Atlanta won that game 79-65, and now the Dream get three straight at home if the series goes that far. The Finals are tied 1-1, but I’d rather be sitting in Atlanta’s locker room right now. The Dream found a way to score against Golden State’s defense. The Valkyries still haven’t figured out how to score against Atlanta.
Game 3 is Wednesday, October 21, at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Tipoff is 8:00 PM ET on USA Network and CNBC, with Peacock streaming the game. Atlanta is laying 3.5 points, and the total is 151.5. Our free WNBA picks page has more games covered.
Golden State Valkyries Can’t Keep Shooting Like This
The Valkyries went 32-12 during the regular season, finished second in the standings, and swept Las Vegas to reach the Finals. Nobody handed them anything. They earned their way here with tough defense and enough offense to get by. But Atlanta has made the scoring part awfully difficult. Golden State won the opener 68-64, then lost Game 2 by 14. Two games, 133 points. That won’t do.

Monday was particularly ugly. Golden State shot 34.4% and turned the ball over 19 times. Atlanta scored 24 points off those mistakes. Think about that for a second. Nearly a third of the Dream’s points came after Golden State handed them the ball. The Valkyries also got outscored 19-0 on fast-break points. It’s hard enough scoring against a set defense. Giving the other team easy baskets while getting none yourself is a good way to lose by double digits.
Golden State has some injury concerns in its rotation, and the bench hasn’t given the team enough scoring. That’s a problem when the starters are struggling, too. The Valkyries don’t need somebody to put up 30 points Wednesday. They need five players who can get a decent shot without throwing the ball away first. They’ve defended well enough to compete. The offense has to meet them halfway.
Atlanta Dream Are Getting What They Want
Atlanta finished 30-14 and entered the playoffs as the fourth seed. The Dream swept New York in the semifinals, then split two games in San Francisco. That’s a good road trip. They probably should have won the opener, too. Atlanta managed only eight points in the fourth quarter of that 68-64 loss and let a winnable game slip away. Monday was different. The Dream got ahead, kept attacking, and didn’t let Golden State back into it.
The Dream weren’t making everything they threw at the basket in Game 2. They didn’t have to. They went to the foul line 35 times, forced turnovers, and got 19 points on the break. That’s how you score 79 without needing a bunch of threes. Atlanta made Golden State defend in uncomfortable spots, then punished the mistakes. The Valkyries are usually the team doing that to somebody else.
Atlanta has gotten good work from its frontcourt, especially on the glass, and the guards have done a better job getting the offense moving. The Dream have enough scoring options that one cold shooter doesn’t wreck the whole night. They still have to be careful. Golden State can turn a game into a wrestling match when its defense gets going. But Atlanta has the better offensive rhythm right now, and it gets to play in front of its own crowd. That’s worth something in a Finals series.
Golden State Valkyries vs Atlanta Dream Picks and Prediction
Atlanta Dream -3.5 (-110)
I’ll lay the 3.5 with Atlanta. Not because I think Golden State is finished. Far from it. The Valkyries have been too good defensively all season to dismiss after one bad game. But there’s a difference between playing good defense and winning when you can’t score. Golden State has managed 68 and 65 points so far. Atlanta just forced 19 turnovers, took 35 free throws, and won by 14 on the road. Now the Dream are home. Golden State might clean up the mistakes, and if it does, this could come down to the last minute. I’m betting Atlanta makes the Valkyries work for every basket again and wins by five or six.
Under 151.5 Points (-110)
The under is the bet I like better. Game 1 finished with 132 points. Game 2 got to 144, and that included Atlanta cashing in on just about every mistake Golden State made. For this one to reach 152, somebody probably needs to have a much better shooting night. Maybe it happens. But Golden State isn’t going to want another game with 19 turnovers and Atlanta running loose. The Valkyries should try to slow things down, get into their half-court offense, and make the Dream work. Atlanta doesn’t need to rush, either. A 76-70 game sounds more likely to me than an 85-80 shootout.
Final Picks: Atlanta Dream -3.5 (-110) and Under 151.5 Points (-110)
