2026 Midterm Odds: Democrats 60% Senate, 90% House | Kalshi Promo Code

By: Alex MacMillan Updated 09/18/2026, 06:46 PM ET

Prediction-market prices moved further toward Democratic control of Congress Friday, with traders now pricing Democrats at approximately 60% to control the Senate and roughly 90% to control the House after the 2026 midterm elections.

Those percentages are market prices, not election forecasts from Picks & Parlays.

Kalshi's Senate-control market has moved sharply over the past week. Democrats were priced at 52% on September 14, reached 57% on September 17 and were around 60% Friday. Kalshi's House-control market was approximately 89% Thursday.

Polymarket shows a similar picture. Its updated September 18 midterm page gives Democrats a 60% market probability of Senate control and 90% for House control. Its separate balance-of-power market prices a Democratic sweep of both chambers at approximately 61%.

2026 Midterm Odds: Senate Control Reaches 60%

The most notable recent movement has come in the Senate market.

Kalshi reported Monday that Democrats had moved ahead of Republicans for the first time in months, reaching a 52% probability of controlling the chamber after the midterms.

By Thursday, that price had climbed to 57%.

Friday's live Kalshi midterm page showed Democrats at approximately 60%.

That amounts to an eight-point change in the market price in four days.

Polymarket independently showed Democrats at 60% in its Senate-control market Friday afternoon, with approximately $5 million in trading volume.

The market movement does not mean Senate control is settled.

It reflects the prices traders are currently assigning to the possible outcomes with Election Day still more than six weeks away.

House Control Market Reaches Roughly 90%

The House market is considerably more one-sided.

Kalshi reported Thursday that traders had pushed the Democratic House-control price to a record 89%.

Polymarket's September 18 page stood at approximately 90% for Democratic control of the House, compared with about 11% for Republican control.

That market has generated roughly $11 million in trading volume.

Again, those figures represent prediction-market prices rather than guaranteed outcomes.

Market probabilities can change quickly as new polling, campaign spending, candidate developments and election news emerge.

Democratic Sweep Market Sits Around 61%

Traders can also take positions on the overall balance of power after the election.

Polymarket's September 18 balance-of-power market gives a scenario in which Democrats control both the Senate and House approximately a 61% probability.

A Republican Senate combined with a Democratic House is priced around 31%.

The balance-of-power market has attracted approximately $13 million in volume.

Those prices help illustrate the difference between the individual chamber markets.

The House market currently shows a substantial Democratic advantage, while Senate control remains much closer.

Recent Polling Has Also Shifted Toward Democrats

Recent national polling provides additional context for the prediction-market move.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll published September 14 found that 44% of respondents said they would support the Democratic candidate in their congressional district, compared with 37% for the Republican candidate.

Reuters described the seven-point gap as the largest Democratic advantage in its generic congressional-ballot polling since President Donald Trump returned to office in January 2025.

The same survey measured Trump's approval rating at 35%.

Polling and prediction markets measure different things.

A national generic congressional ballot asks respondents which party they currently prefer, while prediction-market prices reflect what traders collectively believe will happen after individual races across the country are resolved.

Neither measure guarantees an election result.

Ohio Senate Race Adds Another Friday Catalyst

One of Friday's most notable Senate developments came from Ohio.

Reuters reported that Republican-aligned political groups launched approximately $14 million in new advertising aimed at helping Republican Senator Jon Husted in his race against Democrat Sherrod Brown.

The Ohio special election is receiving national attention because of its potential importance to Senate control.

Reuters reported that recent polling cited in the race had Brown leading Husted by approximately three to five percentage points.

Kalshi's live midterm page was pricing the Democratic side of the Ohio Senate contest at approximately 55% Friday.

The advertising blitz does not determine how the Ohio race will move from here, but it provides another fresh catalyst for a Senate-control market that has already changed significantly this week.

Which Senate Races Are Closest on Kalshi?

Kalshi's current state-by-state Senate board shows several races that could influence control of the chamber.

As of Friday, its live page listed:

  • Ohio: Democratic side approximately 55%
  • Texas: Democratic side approximately 58%
  • Michigan: Democratic side approximately 64%
  • Maine: Democratic side approximately 68%
  • Alaska: Democratic side approximately 68%
  • Iowa: Republican side approximately 61%

Those are market prices and can move throughout the campaign.

The relatively narrow prices in several states help explain why the Senate-control market remains much closer than the House market.

Kalshi Senate Market Has Changed Quickly

The speed of the recent move is notable.

On September 14, Kalshi published an update showing Democrats at 52% and Republicans at 48% for Senate control.

Three days later, Democrats had reached 57%, which Kalshi described as a new high for the contract.

Friday's live price was around 60%.

That progression looks like this:

  • September 14: Democrats 52%
  • September 17: Democrats 57%
  • September 18: Democrats approximately 60%

Prediction markets can reverse direction just as quickly.

A polling change in a major Senate race, candidate news, campaign developments or other political events could materially change the price before Election Day.

How Kalshi 2026 Midterm Markets Work

Kalshi election markets use event contracts whose prices generally correspond to an implied probability.

A Yes contract trading around 60 cents represents an implied market probability of approximately 60%.

If the contract's specified event occurs according to Kalshi's official resolution rules, a winning contract settles at $1.

If it does not occur, that contract settles at $0.

The important detail is that the market price is determined by trading.

It is not an official polling average, election projection or statement by Picks & Parlays about which party will win.

Users should read the resolution criteria for an individual political market before taking a position.

Polymarket and Kalshi Agree on the Current Direction

The two major prediction platforms currently show very similar top-line prices.

For Senate control:

  • Kalshi: Democrats approximately 60%
  • Polymarket: Democrats approximately 60%

For House control:

  • Kalshi: Democrats approximately 89%
  • Polymarket: Democrats approximately 90%

The close agreement between the platforms is notable, but it should not be interpreted as certainty.

Both are trading markets whose prices respond to participants buying and selling contracts.

Polymarket's September 18 page lists roughly $5 million in Senate-control volume and $11 million in House-control volume.

2026 Midterm Market Outlook

The September 18 prediction-market snapshot shows a clear distinction between the two chambers.

The House market is currently heavily tilted toward Democratic control, with prices around 89% to 90%.

The Senate is substantially closer, but its market has moved noticeably this week: from 52% Democratic on Monday to approximately 60% Friday on Kalshi.

Polymarket also has Democrats at 60% for Senate control and 90% for House control.

Recent national polling and developments in competitive Senate races such as Ohio provide political context for that movement, but neither polling nor prediction markets determine the final result.

With Election Day still weeks away, the most useful signal to watch is whether the Senate price continues moving or begins to reverse as additional polling and race-specific developments arrive.

Prediction-market prices represent current trader pricing and can change at any time. They are not polling results, guarantees or endorsements of any candidate or political party.
