Can Alex Zverev Win the 2026 U.S. Open? | Polymarket Odds

By: Devin Erickson-Sheehy Published 08/25/2026, 10:15 PM ET

Alexander Zverev enters the 2026 U.S. Open as the second choice in Polymarket's men's championship market after a season that has finally included a Grand Slam breakthrough.

Zverev is currently trading at a 20.3% probability to win the tournament, displayed as 20% on the live market.

Only Carlos Alcaraz is priced higher at 30%.

Novak Djokovic follows at 10.8%, while Ben Shelton is around 7.6%.

The market has become more concentrated near the top following several withdrawals, including Jannik Sinner.

Zverev has also given traders competing signals heading into New York.

He won Roland Garros for his first Grand Slam title and reached the Wimbledon final, but his recent North American hard-court results have been much less convincing.

The Alexander Zverev U.S. Open winner contract on Polymarket currently carries approximately a 20% implied probability.

Alexander Zverev U.S. Open Chances at 20%

Zverev sits comfortably inside the top tier of the current men's championship market.

Player Polymarket Chance
Carlos Alcaraz 30%
Alexander Zverev 20%
Novak Djokovic 11%
Ben Shelton 8%

The entire market has generated more than $10.7 million in trading volume.

Zverev's individual contract has attracted approximately $445,000.

A 20% probability leaves him well behind Alcaraz but almost twice as likely as Djokovic according to the current trading price.

That positioning is significant.

Zverev is no longer being treated simply as one contender among a large second tier.

The market currently views him as the clearest alternative to Alcaraz.

Zverev Finally Won His First Grand Slam in 2026

The strongest argument for Zverev begins in Paris.

He defeated Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1 in the Roland Garros final to win his first Grand Slam championship.

That result removed the biggest unanswered question from an otherwise accomplished career.

Before Paris, Zverev had won Masters titles, an Olympic gold medal and two ATP Finals championships without capturing one of the four majors.

He had also suffered several painful Grand Slam defeats.

Winning Roland Garros means Zverev enters New York knowing he can finish a seven-match major.

That experience is difficult to quantify in a futures market, but it matters when comparing him with talented contenders who have never closed a Grand Slam.

Wimbledon Reinforced Zverev's Major-Level Form

Zverev did not disappear after Paris.

He followed his Roland Garros championship by reaching the Wimbledon final.

That gave him consecutive appearances in Grand Slam championship matches.

Although he did not win Wimbledon, the run strengthened the idea that Zverev's 2026 major results are not built around one isolated tournament.

He has shown the ability to contend deep into majors on dramatically different surfaces.

The U.S. Open now gives him an opportunity to carry that consistency onto outdoor hard courts.

That surface has historically suited him.

Zverev was already a U.S. Open finalist before winning his first major and has produced several other deep runs in New York.

Recent Hard-Court Form Creates the Biggest Concern

Zverev's results since Wimbledon have been less impressive.

He entered Montreal as the top seed but lost his opening match to Tallon Griekspoor.

Griekspoor recovered from losing the first set to defeat Zverev 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-4.

Zverev then moved to Cincinnati and produced two wins before running into Tommy Paul in the round of 16.

Paul defeated him 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-4.

That result was particularly frustrating for Zverev because Paul saved a match point before completing the comeback.

Zverev struck 14 aces but also committed nine double faults.

A critical foot fault added to the late-match problems.

The Cincinnati performance highlighted the central risk around Zverev.

His first serve can make him extremely difficult to break, but the second serve can still become vulnerable during pressure situations.

Those swings are harder to survive across seven Grand Slam matches.

Sinner's Withdrawal Changes the Men's Championship Market

Jannik Sinner's withdrawal is an important part of Zverev's current 20% probability.

Removing one of the strongest players in the world from a Grand Slam field redistributes championship probability across the remaining contenders.

Zverev is positioned to absorb a meaningful portion of that opportunity because he is already one of the most proven major performers in the field.

Sinner is not the only notable absence.

Jack Draper, Holger Rune and Joao Fonseca are also out.

None of those withdrawals guarantees Zverev a favorable route.

A Grand Slam draw still contains 128 players, and the top of the remaining field includes Alcaraz, Djokovic, Shelton and several other legitimate threats.

The absences nevertheless reduce the number of dangerous opponents available to occupy Zverev's section of the bracket.

That matters in an outright championship market.

Zverev Has Already Come Within One Match of a U.S. Open Title

New York has been the site of one of Zverev's closest calls.

He reached the 2020 U.S. Open final and took a two-set lead over Dominic Thiem.

Zverev was unable to finish the match.

Thiem came back to win 2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(6).

Zverev has remained a regular second-week presence at the tournament.

He reached the semifinals again in 2021.

He made the quarterfinals in both 2023 and 2024.

His 2025 tournament ended earlier, with Felix Auger-Aliassime defeating him in the third round.

That history gives Zverev considerably more New York experience than most of the players priced below him.

He has played high-pressure night matches inside Arthur Ashe Stadium.

He has survived long five-set matches.

He has experienced both a U.S. Open final and the disappointment of losing one.

The U.S. Open Draw Has Not Been Released Yet

There is no legitimate Zverev draw path to analyze yet.

The men's singles draw is scheduled to be revealed Thursday, August 27.

Main-draw singles begins Sunday, August 30.

That makes Thursday the next major catalyst for Zverev's championship probability.

A favorable quarter could strengthen his position as the second choice.

A difficult section could narrow the gap between Zverev and the players currently trading below him.

Until the bracket is actually released, any discussion of specific quarterfinal or semifinal opponents would be speculation.

Why Alexander Zverev Can Win the U.S. Open

The championship case begins with his serve.

Zverev can generate large numbers of free points when his first delivery is working.

That becomes especially valuable in best-of-five tennis, where holding serve consistently can place enormous pressure on opponents over several hours.

His backhand is another elite weapon.

Zverev can redirect pace, defend effectively from that wing and attack without needing to take excessive risk.

His physical profile also works well over five sets.

At 6-foot-6, Zverev combines size with unusual movement and endurance.

The biggest difference in 2026 is that those tools are now backed by proof that he can finish a major.

Roland Garros changed that part of the argument.

What Could Stop Zverev in New York?

The second serve remains the most obvious technical concern.

Nine double faults against Paul in Cincinnati were a warning sign.

Those problems become particularly dangerous late in sets, during tiebreaks and when serving to stay in matches.

Recent hard-court form also deserves attention.

Zverev has gone 2-2 across Montreal and Cincinnati.

That is a significant contrast with the level he showed while reaching consecutive Grand Slam finals earlier in the summer.

The draw is another unresolved variable.

Zverev's 20% probability is being established before traders know exactly which opponents could appear in his quarter.

Thursday could materially change the market.

Is Zverev the Biggest Beneficiary of Sinner's Withdrawal?

He has one of the strongest arguments.

Alcaraz remains the market favorite and therefore begins from a stronger overall position.

Zverev, however, sits directly behind him and already owns a major title this season.

Removing Sinner reduces the number of established championship-level players Zverev may need to overcome.

It also strengthens the importance of Zverev's experience relative to several players deeper on the board.

That does not mean the entire probability removed from Sinner should flow directly to Zverev.

Markets redistribute probability across every remaining player.

But Zverev is positioned near enough to the top that he should be one of the clearest beneficiaries.

How the Zverev Polymarket Contract Works

The contract resolves according to whether Alexander Zverev officially wins the 2026 U.S. Open men's singles championship.

A Yes position represents the view that Zverev will win the tournament.

Winning Yes shares settle at $1 if he becomes champion.

If another player wins, the Zverev Yes side resolves at $0.

The displayed percentage is derived from the live trading price.

It can change continuously as traders respond to the draw, injury news and tournament results.

That means the current 20% figure is a live market estimate rather than a fixed prediction.

Will Alexander Zverev Win the 2026 U.S. Open?

Zverev has one of the strongest championship profiles in the field.

He is the reigning Roland Garros champion.

He reached the Wimbledon final.

He has previously reached a U.S. Open final and several other deep rounds in New York.

The withdrawals of Sinner and several other contenders have also reduced the depth of the field.

There are legitimate concerns.

Zverev's North American hard-court form has been mixed, and his serving problems against Paul showed that old vulnerabilities have not disappeared.

The draw also remains unknown until Thursday.

Polymarket nevertheless places Zverev in a clear position.

At approximately 20%, he is the second choice behind Alcaraz and comfortably ahead of every other player on the board.

That makes him one of the most serious championship threats entering the final days before the U.S. Open draw.
