Darian Mensah Heisman Chances at 10% on Kalshi Live Odds

By: Devin Erickson-Sheehy Published 09/05/2026, 06:45 AM ET

Darian Mensah could not have done much more to open his 2026 Heisman Trophy campaign.

The Miami quarterback completed 27 of 30 passes for 401 yards and five touchdowns as the No. 7 Hurricanes routed Stanford 45-6 on Friday night.

Now the Heisman market is starting to react. Kalshi's 2026 Heisman Trophy market gives Mensah a 10% chance to win the award, putting him alongside Texas quarterback Arch Manning and just behind current favorite CJ Carr.

Darian Mensah Heisman Chances Reach 10%

Mensah entered the season as one of several quarterbacks positioned just behind the top tier of Heisman favorites.

One game was enough to move him directly into that leading group.

Kalshi currently has Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr at 12%, with Mensah and Manning both at 10%. That leaves very little separation among the early leaders before most of the country's top contenders have even completed their first full weekend of games.

Mensah's opening performance gives traders something tangible to price.

He completed 90% of his passes against Stanford, averaged more than 13 yards per attempt and threw five touchdowns without an interception. Miami finished with 549 total yards and scored touchdowns on six of its first nine possessions.

It was exactly the type of nationally visible opening performance that can create early Heisman momentum.

Mensah Throws Five Touchdowns in Miami Debut

Mensah arrived at Miami with significant expectations after transferring from Duke, where he established himself as one of the ACC's most productive quarterbacks.

His first appearance as a Hurricane immediately showed why.

Mensah threw three touchdown passes to Malachi Toney, another to Cooper Barkate and one to Daylyn Upshaw. Miami led 28-6 by halftime and extended the advantage to 42-6 before Mensah's night was finished.

Toney provided the biggest receiving performance, catching 12 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns.

That connection could become especially important to Mensah's Heisman case.

Quarterbacks generally need both elite production and a nationally relevant team to remain near the top of the award race. A receiver capable of turning routine completions into explosive plays gives Mensah another way to accumulate the statistics that keep a quarterback visible throughout the season.

Miami Gives Mensah a Strong Heisman Platform

The individual numbers matter, but Miami's team outlook may matter nearly as much.

The Hurricanes entered the season ranked No. 7 after reaching the College Football Playoff National Championship Game last season. They also began 2026 as the preseason favorite in the ACC.

Kalshi's broader college football markets continue to treat Miami as one of the country's leading contenders. The Hurricanes are currently priced around 57% to win the ACC and approximately 53% to reach the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.

That matters for Mensah because the modern Heisman race is heavily tied to games with national consequences.

If Miami remains in the ACC championship and College Football Playoff picture, Mensah should continue receiving the type of high-profile opportunities that can strengthen an award campaign.

The next challenge is maintaining Friday's level of efficiency once Miami moves into tougher portions of its schedule.

Readers following Saturday's games can find the latest college football picks and predictions at Picks & Parlays as Week 1 continues.

How Mensah Compares With the Other Heisman Favorites

The early Heisman race remains unusually compressed.

Carr is the narrow Kalshi favorite at 12%, while Manning and Mensah sit at 10%. Several quarterbacks immediately behind them still have opportunities to make their own Week 1 statements.

That makes Mensah's position meaningful without making him anything close to a runaway favorite.

Notre Dame has not yet played its opener against Wisconsin, while Texas, Oregon, Ohio State and other programs with prominent Heisman candidates have major portions of their seasons still ahead.

Traditional sportsbook markets tell a similar story. Mensah has moved into roughly the 10-to-1 range at major books, putting him among the shortest-priced Heisman candidates entering the first full Saturday of September.

The race can change dramatically after one game, particularly this early in the year.

A strong performance against Stanford moved Mensah closer to the front. One poor outing later in the season could move the market just as quickly in the opposite direction.

What Could Move Darian Mensah's Heisman Odds Next?

The next major variable is whether Mensah can turn his opener into a sustained statistical run.

Five touchdowns and 401 passing yards immediately create attention, but Heisman campaigns are built over an entire season.

Miami's record will be one of the biggest factors. If the Hurricanes remain near the top of the ACC and return to the College Football Playoff, Mensah will have a strong team résumé supporting his individual production.

His efficiency will matter as well.

Friday's 27-of-30 passing performance is impossible to maintain over an entire season, but avoiding turnovers while continuing to produce explosive passing numbers would strengthen his position against the other quarterbacks near the top of the market.

Head-to-head results and performances by Carr, Manning, Dante Moore, Julian Sayin and the other leading candidates will also affect Mensah even when Miami is not playing.

Heisman probabilities are relative. Mensah can gain ground because he plays well, because another contender struggles, or because both happen during the same weekend.

How the Kalshi Heisman Trophy Market Works

Kalshi's market asks which player will win the 2026 Heisman Trophy.

A Mensah contract trading around 10 cents corresponds to approximately a 10% market-implied probability of him winning the award.

Those probabilities are not fixed forecasts. Prices can change as traders respond to player performances, injuries, team results, rankings and developments throughout the college football season.

The market ultimately resolves according to the official winner of the 2026 Heisman Trophy.

Mensah Enters the Heisman Lead Pack After Week 1 Statement

It is far too early to declare a Heisman favorite based on one performance, but Mensah accomplished exactly what a contender wants from an opener.

Miami won by 39 points. Mensah threw for more than 400 yards. He accounted for five touchdowns and completed 90% of his passes.

The result has pushed his Heisman chances to 10% on Kalshi, putting him within two percentage points of the current market leader.

The harder part begins now.

Mensah has established himself as one of the early names to watch. Staying there will depend on whether Miami's explosive opener becomes the beginning of a championship-level season rather than simply one spectacular Friday night.

Prediction-market prices can change quickly and percentages reflect market prices at the time of writing. Always review current market rules, prices, promotion terms and eligibility requirements before trading.
