Diamondbacks Playoff Chances at 39% on Polymarket Live Odds

By: Alex MacMillan Published 08/28/2026, 06:35 AM ET

The Arizona Diamondbacks remain within striking distance of the final National League Wild Card spot, but Thursday night's loss in San Francisco made their path slightly steeper.

Arizona enters Friday at 71-64, 1.5 games behind the San Diego Padres for the final NL Wild Card position.

The MLB postseason market on Polymarket currently gives the Diamondbacks a 39% chance to reach the playoffs.

Arizona's Yes side is trading around 40 cents, while No sits near 62 cents. The Diamondbacks outcome has generated more than $12,700 in trading volume, with the overall MLB postseason market above $186,000.

Diamondbacks Playoff Chances Sit at 39%

Polymarket continues to treat Arizona as a legitimate postseason contender, but not the favorite for the final Wild Card position.

The current National League race has Chicago, Philadelphia and San Diego occupying the three Wild Card spots.

Arizona is immediately behind them.

The Padres enter Friday at 72-62, while the Diamondbacks are 71-64.

That leaves Arizona 1.5 games back with roughly four weeks remaining in the regular season.

Polymarket currently gives San Diego a 70% chance to make the postseason.

Arizona sits at 39%.

That gap reflects San Diego's current position in the standings, but the race remains close enough that a short winning or losing streak could move both contracts quickly.

Giants Hand Arizona a 6-1 Setback

Arizona entered Thursday having won five of its previous seven games, including two of three against the Chicago Cubs.

That momentum did not carry into the opener of a four-game road series against San Francisco.

The Giants beat the Diamondbacks 6-1 at Oracle Park.

Gabriel Moreno tied the game with a solo home run in the fourth inning, but Arizona failed to score again.

San Francisco took the lead in the fifth and broke the game open with four runs in the eighth.

The defeat dropped Arizona to 71-64 and increased its deficit behind San Diego from one game to 1.5.

That makes the remainder of the Giants series more important than it appeared even 24 hours earlier.

Arizona Still Has Time to Recover Against San Francisco

The Diamondbacks remain in San Francisco for three more games.

Friday's game is scheduled for 10:15 PM ET at Oracle Park.

The teams are also scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday after Sunday's game was moved forward.

That creates an unusually compressed opportunity for Arizona.

Three victories in roughly 24 hours could dramatically improve the standings picture.

A poor weekend against a Giants team well below .500 would have the opposite effect.

San Diego, meanwhile, opens a road series against Tampa Bay on Friday.

Because the Padres and Diamondbacks are separated by only 1.5 games, results involving both clubs can affect Arizona's Polymarket probability on the same night.

Ketel Marte Could Become the Next Major Catalyst

Arizona is also approaching a potentially important roster development.

Ketel Marte remains on the 10-day injured list because of left knee inflammation.

Marte played five innings and received four at-bats in a bridge-camp game Thursday as he continued working toward a return.

The current target is Arizona's home series against Philadelphia from Aug. 31 through Sept. 2.

That timing matters.

Philadelphia currently occupies the second NL Wild Card position.

If Marte returns during that series, Arizona could add one of its most important offensive players immediately before a set of games with direct postseason implications.

His return is not guaranteed, and the Diamondbacks still need him to progress without another setback.

But his availability is one of the clearest upcoming pieces of information that could alter expectations around Arizona's playoff chances.

NL Wild Card Race Remains Tight

The Diamondbacks do not need to chase Chicago or Philadelphia to make the postseason.

They only need to finish ahead of enough teams to claim one of the three available Wild Card spots.

San Diego is the immediate target.

Arizona also has some separation from the clubs behind it, giving the Diamondbacks a race that is increasingly centered on overtaking the Padres rather than merely surviving a crowded group of contenders.

That makes every San Diego result relevant to Arizona's market.

If the Padres lose while the Diamondbacks win, the gap can close quickly.

If both teams move in the same direction, little changes.

If San Diego wins while Arizona loses, the market could begin putting substantially more distance between the two clubs.

Why Polymarket Still Gives Arizona a 39% Chance

A 39% probability means traders still see a realistic route to October.

Arizona is not buried in the standings.

The Diamondbacks are one strong series away from potentially moving back into a playoff position.

They have also shown the ability to win close games and rally from deficits.

Before Thursday's loss, Arizona had just taken a significant series from the Cubs.

Ryan Waldschmidt delivered a walk-off home run in Tuesday's comeback victory, and Eduardo Rodriguez followed with seven scoreless innings in Wednesday's 2-0 win.

Those performances kept Arizona directly attached to the Wild Card race.

The problem is that the margin for error is shrinking.

Games against teams like San Francisco are opportunities Arizona increasingly needs to convert.

What Could Move Diamondbacks Playoff Odds Next?

Several immediate catalysts could move Arizona's 39% probability.

The most obvious is the remainder of the Giants series.

Arizona has three games left in San Francisco before returning home.

The Padres' results against Tampa Bay will matter at the same time.

Marte's recovery is another major variable.

A confirmed return during the Philadelphia series would strengthen the Diamondbacks lineup for one of their most important upcoming matchups.

The Phillies series itself could also have a significant impact because Philadelphia remains directly involved in the Wild Card standings.

With only a few games separating several National League contenders, the market should remain sensitive to daily results throughout the next month.

How the Diamondbacks Polymarket Contract Works

The Polymarket contract asks whether the Arizona Diamondbacks will make the 2026 MLB postseason.

The Arizona contract resolves Yes if the Diamondbacks officially clinch a spot in the 2026 MLB Playoffs.

If Arizona is eliminated, the Yes position resolves at $0.

Winning Yes shares resolve at $1 if the Diamondbacks qualify.

The market uses official MLB information and team announcements as its primary resolution sources, with credible reporting available if necessary.

A Yes price near 40 cents corresponds with a market-implied probability of approximately 40%, while the displayed market currently rounds Arizona to 39%.

Prices can move after every game as traders react to results, standings changes, injuries and roster developments.

Can the Diamondbacks Make the 2026 MLB Playoffs?

Polymarket currently puts the answer at 39%.

Arizona's position is straightforward.

The Diamondbacks are 71-64.

The Padres are 72-62.

The gap for the final NL Wild Card is 1.5 games.

Thursday's loss hurt, but it did not fundamentally change the race.

Arizona still has three games remaining against San Francisco this weekend, a crucial Philadelphia series beginning Monday and the possibility of Marte returning to the lineup.

Those are all meaningful catalysts.

The Diamondbacks remain more likely to miss the postseason than make it according to the current market.

But at 39% and only 1.5 games out of a playoff spot, Arizona is still close enough for one strong weekend to materially change the picture.
