Dodgers Three-Peat Chances at 40% on Polymarket Live Odds

By: Devin Erickson-Sheehy Published 08/21/2026, 11:55 AM ET

The Los Angeles Dodgers enter Friday with a 40% chance to win a third straight World Series on Polymarket after a three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies restored some momentum to the defending champions.

The 2026 World Series winner market on Polymarket has Los Angeles well clear of the field. The Yankees are the next closest team at about 10%, while Milwaukee and Boston are both in the high single digits.

Dodgers Three-Peat Chances Sit at 40%

A 40% championship probability is an unusually large number for one team in late August.

It still means the market believes Los Angeles is more likely to fall short than win the World Series, but no other club is close to the Dodgers on the current board. The Yankees are around 10%, with the next group clustered in the high single digits.

That gap reflects the combination of roster quality, playoff positioning and the Dodgers' status as the two-time defending World Series champions.

Los Angeles is 77-51 and leads the National League West by a comfortable margin. The Dodgers are also within striking distance of Milwaukee for the best record in the National League, keeping home-field positioning relevant over the final weeks of the regular season.

The market has attracted more than $38 million in total trading volume, making it one of Polymarket's larger baseball futures boards.

Colorado Sweep Gives Los Angeles a Needed Reset

The timing of the three-game sweep matters.

Los Angeles entered the Colorado series after losing three of four to Milwaukee and 11 of its previous 16 games. That stretch did not erase the Dodgers' postseason position, but it introduced legitimate questions about whether the defending champions were beginning to wobble at the wrong point of the season.

They responded by scoring 24 runs in three games at Coors Field.

Shohei Ohtani hit two home runs in Monday's 11-5 win and added another homer Tuesday in a 7-6 victory. Los Angeles then completed the sweep Wednesday with a 6-4 extra-inning win.

The finale was especially useful from a market perspective because it did not depend entirely on Ohtani.

Mookie Betts went 3-for-5 with a home run and drove in an insurance run in the 10th inning. Freddie Freeman broke the tie with a sacrifice fly, and Tanner Scott closed the game with a clean inning.

That is the type of broader contribution Los Angeles will need in October.

Ohtani and Betts Are Heating Up Together

Ohtani's power surge gave the offense its biggest headline in Colorado.

He hit three home runs in the first two games of the series, reaching 30 for the season with a 448-foot shot Tuesday.

Betts then supplied the biggest offensive performance in the finale.

The Dodgers do not need every star to peak at once during the regular season, but their championship ceiling changes when Ohtani, Betts and Freeman are all producing in the same stretch.

That is one reason the Colorado sweep is more meaningful than simply taking three games from a last-place opponent.

Los Angeles entered Denver needing evidence that the offense could regain rhythm after a difficult stretch. The Dodgers left with 24 runs, three wins and a cleaner setup for the next homestand.

Yamamoto Starts the Pirates Series Friday

The Dodgers return home Friday night to begin a series with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 PM ET at Dodger Stadium, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto lined up for Los Angeles.

Yamamoto enters the matchup 11-6 with a 2.72 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP. Pittsburgh is expected to counter with right-hander Bubba Chandler.

The Pirates are below .500, but the series still matters in the larger championship picture. Los Angeles has a chance to build on its three-game winning streak without immediately facing another division leader.

A strong homestand would reinforce the idea that the Milwaukee series was a temporary downturn rather than the beginning of a deeper slide.

Edwin Diaz Injury Still Matters for October

The biggest immediate concern is in the bullpen.

Closer Edwin Diaz was placed on the injured list this week because of a neck issue after struggling badly following his return from elbow surgery.

Diaz has allowed runs at an alarming rate since coming back in late July, and the Dodgers have shifted Tanner Scott into the closer role.

Manager Dave Roberts has indicated that the club does not currently expect the neck injury to end Diaz's season.

That is important because Los Angeles can absorb a short-term bullpen adjustment in August. October is different.

A three-peat run will eventually require the Dodgers to convert narrow postseason leads against elite opponents. If Diaz is unavailable or ineffective, Scott and the rest of the bullpen will carry more leverage than originally planned.

The 40% Polymarket price therefore reflects a team with the strongest championship case, not a roster without vulnerabilities.

Tarik Skubal Gives the Rotation Another October Weapon

The Dodgers' trade-deadline addition of Tarik Skubal remains one of the strongest arguments in favor of Los Angeles.

Skubal joined a rotation that already includes Yamamoto, Blake Snell and other high-end options. The move gave the Dodgers another potential postseason ace and reduced the need for any one starter to carry the staff.

That depth is especially valuable in a playoff format where a short series can turn on two or three dominant starts.

Los Angeles did not acquire Skubal simply to protect its NL West lead. The move was designed for October.

The current prediction-market gap between the Dodgers and the rest of baseball reflects that roster construction as much as their regular-season record.

What Could Move Dodgers World Series Odds Next?

Several factors can change the Dodgers' championship price before the postseason.

The first is health. Diaz is the latest bullpen concern, and any new injury to Ohtani, Betts, Freeman, Yamamoto, Skubal or Snell would affect the market quickly.

The second is playoff seeding. Los Angeles has already built a strong position in the NL West, but the race for the best record in the league remains relevant because of potential home-field advantages and postseason matchups.

The third is simply form.

The Dodgers looked vulnerable during their mid-August skid. Three wins in Colorado reversed that direction, but Friday begins the next test.

If Los Angeles turns the sweep into a longer winning streak, a 40% championship price could strengthen. If the Dodgers stumble again or the bullpen becomes a larger concern, traders have plenty of room to move the probability lower.

Dodgers Three-Peat Outlook

Los Angeles remains the clear favorite to do something no MLB team has accomplished in decades: win three consecutive World Series championships.

Polymarket currently gives the Dodgers a 40% chance to complete the three-peat.

That number is supported by a 77-51 record, a comfortable NL West lead, a loaded lineup and a rotation strengthened by Skubal.

The three-game sweep in Colorado gave the market a fresh reason to focus on Los Angeles after a difficult mid-August stretch.

The next checkpoint begins Friday against Pittsburgh.

Yamamoto gets the opening assignment, the Dodgers are back at home, and the defending champions have an opportunity to show that their late-summer reset is becoming something more durable.
