Fernando Mendoza OROY Chances at 16% on Kalshi Live Odds
Fernando Mendoza enters Thursday night's Raiders-Texans preseason game with a 16% chance to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year on Kalshi, putting the No. 1 overall pick just behind Arizona running back Jeremiyah Love on the live market.
The Kalshi Offensive Rookie of the Year market lists Love at 17%, Mendoza at 16% and Seattle running back Jadarian Price at 13%. More than $822,000 has been traded across the event.
Mendoza was at 17% before his preseason debut last week, so the current price represents a modest one-point pullback rather than a major change in the rookie race. Thursday gives traders another opportunity to evaluate him when Las Vegas visits Houston at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Las Vegas selected the former Indiana quarterback first overall in the 2026 NFL Draft after he won the Heisman Trophy and led the Hoosiers to a national championship. The Raiders then added veteran Kirk Cousins, and head coach Klint Kubiak has repeatedly made clear that Cousins remains the expected starter.
That makes Mendoza's 16% market price notable. Traders are keeping him close to Love despite the possibility that Mendoza opens the regular season on the sideline.
The market currently has Love at 17%, Mendoza at 16% and Price at 13%. That is a tightly packed top tier rather than a runaway favorite.
For Mendoza, the biggest variable is playing time. Quarterbacks can move quickly in award markets once they are starting, but a developmental season behind a veteran would make it much harder to accumulate the production needed to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Mendoza Gets Another Extended Look Against Houston
The game-day catalyst is real.
Mendoza is expected to receive another meaningful workload Thursday after playing four drives in the Raiders' preseason opener against Arizona. He completed 10 of 16 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown in the 27-14 loss, showing enough command to keep the rookie conversation moving.
Kubiak has said Mendoza needs reps and will continue to get them. That development plan also showed up during the Raiders' joint practice with Houston earlier this week, when Mendoza received extensive work with the first-team offense for the first time in training camp.
The results against Houston's defense were mixed. Mendoza made some positive throws but also threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown during the joint session.
That is exactly why Thursday matters more than another routine practice.
Houston presents a difficult defensive test, and Mendoza should again have enough preseason snaps for evaluators and traders to react to how he handles pressure, protection breakdowns and NFL-speed coverage.
Why Mendoza Slipped From 17% to 16%
The one-point move does not necessarily mean the market disliked Mendoza's preseason debut.
His first game was generally encouraging. He led a touchdown drive, avoided an interception and completed 62.5% of his passes. The Raiders also expanded his workload with first-team practice reps afterward.
The bigger issue is that Mendoza's OROY case still includes a playing-time discount.
Cousins started the preseason opener and completed five of six passes for 50 yards and a touchdown on the opening drive. After the game, Kubiak reiterated that the starting job remained Cousins' to lose.
Mendoza can therefore look good in August without immediately improving his award probability.
If Cousins remains healthy and keeps the job deep into the season, Mendoza could spend too much of his rookie year developing behind him to build an OROY résumé. If Mendoza forces the Raiders to accelerate the transition, the current 16% price could move quickly.
That uncertainty is part of what keeps the market close.
Jeremiyah Love Still Leads the OROY Market
Love is the current Kalshi favorite at 17%, one point ahead of Mendoza.
The Arizona running back also produced one of the more eye-catching rookie performances of the first preseason week, rushing for 58 yards in the Cardinals' win over Las Vegas.
Unlike Mendoza, Love's path to immediate offensive touches is easier to see. That matters in an award market where opportunity can be as important as draft position or preseason hype.
Price is next at 13%, giving the top of the board three players within four percentage points of one another.
The absence of a dominant favorite leaves room for meaningful movement once the regular season starts. A rookie who immediately claims a major offensive role could separate from the field quickly.
Raiders-Texans Is a Better Test Than the Debut
Mendoza's first preseason game showed poise. Houston should test whether that poise carries over against a more demanding defensive environment.
The Texans gave Mendoza a preview during the joint practice. He worked against first-team defenders, faced pressure and experienced some of the mistakes that come with a rookie quarterback adjusting to NFL speed.
Thursday's game will not determine whether Mendoza wins an award handed out months from now, but it can influence the market's short-term perception of his development.
Another efficient performance would reinforce the idea that Las Vegas has a rookie quarterback progressing faster than expected. A rough outing would not erase his draft status or long-term outlook, but it could make traders less willing to price an early-season quarterback transition into his OROY chances.
That makes the Texans matchup a legitimate market catalyst rather than simply a scheduled preseason game.
What Would Move Mendoza's OROY Odds?
The most important development is not a specific preseason stat line. It is whether Mendoza continues closing the distance between himself and the starting job.
A strong showing Thursday could help that narrative, especially after his first-team practice work against Houston. But Cousins remains the starter, and the Raiders have little reason to force a transition simply because their rookie looks comfortable in August.
For Mendoza's Kalshi price to make a larger move, the market likely needs evidence that his regular-season opportunity is becoming more immediate.
That could come through outstanding preseason play, changes in the quarterback depth chart, regular-season performance by Cousins or an eventual decision by Las Vegas to hand the offense to its top draft pick.
Until then, Mendoza's OROY market sits in an unusual position: he is one of the most highly rated rookies in the league, but one of the leading candidates whose Week 1 role is still limited.

For the moment, Cousins remains the expected starter and Mendoza remains the high-upside understudy.
