Rangers Playoff Chances at 60% | Kalshi Promo Code

By: Alex MacMillan Published 09/22/2026, 04:45 PM ET

Texas is 78-78 and holds a one-game lead over the Houston Astros, who sit at 77-79.

Kalshi currently gives the Rangers approximately a 60% chance to make the MLB playoffs. Houston is around 43%.

Polymarket shows nearly the same race, pricing Texas around 60% to reach the postseason and Houston around 44%.

The margin is thin because Houston owns the season-series tiebreaker, meaning the Astros would finish ahead of Texas if the teams end the regular season with identical records.

Rangers Playoff Chances Sit at 60%

The prediction markets currently give Texas a slight advantage in the final AL West race.

Current postseason probabilities are approximately:

  • Texas Rangers: 60%
  • Houston Astros: 43% on Kalshi
  • Houston Astros: 44% on Polymarket

The AL West winner market is similarly tight.

Kalshi currently prices:

  • Texas to win the AL West: 60%
  • Houston to win the AL West: 40%

Those numbers reflect current trader expectations rather than guarantees.

With six games remaining for both clubs, one night can still produce a major swing.

AL West Standings Entering September 22

Texas begins Tuesday with the narrowest possible outright lead.

Current AL West standings:

  • Texas Rangers: 78-78
  • Houston Astros: 77-79 — 1 game back
  • Seattle Mariners: 73-83 — 5 games back

Texas has gone 6-4 over its last 10 games.

Houston has gone only 3-7 and enters the final week on a three-game losing streak after being swept by Atlanta.

That recent movement is a major reason Texas has regained the market advantage.

Houston Owns the Tiebreaker Over Texas

The one-game lead is more fragile than it looks.

Houston won the season series against Texas and therefore owns the MLB tiebreaker if the two clubs finish with identical records.

That means the Rangers effectively need to finish ahead of Houston rather than merely tying the Astros.

If both teams finish 83-79, for example, Houston would take the AL West based on the tiebreaker.

That rule helps explain why Texas is only around 60% despite beginning the week alone in first place.

Rangers Have Six Games Remaining

Texas controls its position with six games remaining.

The Rangers' final schedule is:

  • September 22 vs. New York Mets
  • September 23 vs. New York Mets
  • September 24 vs. New York Mets
  • September 25 at Minnesota Twins
  • September 26 at Minnesota Twins
  • September 27 at Minnesota Twins

Texas gets three home games before ending the season with three in Minnesota.

Tuesday's opener against New York begins at 8:05 p.m. ET.

Kalshi currently gives Texas approximately a 56% chance to beat the Mets in the opening game of the series.

That makes Tuesday immediately important to the Rangers' postseason probability.

Astros Have an Easier Remaining Schedule

Houston may trail by one game, but its final schedule is favorable.

The Astros play all six remaining games on the road:

  • September 22 at Seattle Mariners
  • September 23 at Seattle Mariners
  • September 24 at Athletics
  • September 25 at Athletics
  • September 26 at Athletics
  • September 27 at Athletics

Houston's remaining opponents entered the week with a combined winning percentage below Texas' remaining opponents.

Four of the Astros' final six games come against an Athletics team that enters Tuesday at 61-95.

That softer schedule — combined with Houston's tiebreaker advantage — keeps the Astros very much alive despite their recent losing streak.

Astros Face Seattle Tuesday Night

Houston begins its final road trip with two games in Seattle.

The Astros send Cristian Javier to the mound Tuesday against Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert.

Javier enters at 2-6 with a 5.31 ERA.

Gilbert is 12-10 with a 3.69 ERA.

Houston's game begins at 9:40 p.m. ET, more than an hour after the Rangers and Mets begin in Arlington.

That creates the possibility of the AL West market moving twice during the night.

A Texas win could initially expand the Rangers' market advantage.

A Houston result later in Seattle could then move it again.

Cal Quantrill Injury Adds Pressure to Rangers Rotation

Texas is also entering the final week without one of its strongest starting pitchers.

Cal Quantrill was placed on the injured list with a right lat strain after leaving his most recent start.

The injury effectively ends his regular season.

Quantrill finishes the year with a 9-5 record and 2.86 ERA.

Texas called up Winston Santos as a replacement.

Losing Quantrill does not change the Rangers' current place in the standings, but it reduces the club's pitching depth during the most important week of the season.

That could also matter if Texas reaches the postseason.

Why the Rangers Are Favored Over Houston

There are several reasons the market still gives Texas the edge.

First, the Rangers already hold the one-game lead.

Houston must make up ground.

Second, Texas has played better recently.

The Rangers are 6-4 over their last 10, while Houston is 3-7.

Third, Houston's margin for error has disappeared after the Atlanta sweep.

But the Astros still have two major advantages:

  • Houston owns the head-to-head tiebreaker
  • Houston has the easier remaining schedule

That combination is why the prediction market remains close despite Texas sitting in first place.

Could the Rangers Still Make the Playoffs Without Winning the AL West?

Yes, but the division remains the cleanest route.

The Chicago White Sox enter Tuesday at 80-76 and currently occupy an American League playoff position.

Texas is two games behind Chicago in the win column.

If Houston overtakes Texas in the AL West, the Rangers could still remain in the Wild Card race depending on how Chicago and other contenders finish.

That additional path is one reason a team's playoff probability is not identical to its division-winning probability.

At the moment, however, both Texas numbers sit around 60%.

How the Kalshi Rangers Playoff Market Works

Kalshi offers a contract on whether Texas will qualify for the 2026 MLB postseason.

A Rangers Yes contract trading near 60 cents represents a market-implied probability around 60%.

If Texas officially qualifies for the playoffs under the contract's resolution rules, a winning Yes contract settles at $1.

If the Rangers miss the postseason, the Yes contract settles at $0.

Prices can continue moving throughout the final week as results change the standings.

Rangers Playoff Chances Outlook

Texas enters the final week in first place, but the AL West remains far from settled.

The Rangers are 78-78.

Houston is 77-79.

Kalshi currently puts the Rangers' playoff chances at approximately 60%, compared with about 43% for Houston.

Polymarket is nearly identical at roughly 60% Texas and 44% Houston.

The Rangers have the lead.

The Astros have the tiebreaker.

Houston also has the easier remaining schedule.

That creates a final six-game race in which every result can materially change the postseason market.

Texas Rangers record: 78-78 Houston Astros record: 77-79 AL West margin: Texas +1 game Rangers playoff probability: approximately 60% Astros playoff probability: approximately 43% on Kalshi Rangers AL West probability: approximately 60% Astros AL West probability: approximately 40% Games remaining: 6 each Tiebreaker: Houston over Texas
