WNBA Best Bet: Minnesota Lynx -3.5 vs Washington Mystics
The first play comes from the Minnesota Lynx vs Washington Mystics prediction.
Best Bet: Minnesota Lynx -3.5
Minnesota enters Friday with the best record in the WNBA and one of the league's strongest two-way profiles. The Lynx have won nine of their last 10 games, including a 77-66 road victory over Golden State on Wednesday.
The biggest pregame variable is Olivia Miles.
Miles left Wednesday's win after turning her left ankle. She had already scored 20 points with seven assists and five rebounds before the injury, making her status important to Minnesota's offensive ceiling.
Even with that uncertainty, Minnesota has enough depth to remain the preferred side at the current number.
Napheesa Collier continues to give the Lynx a matchup advantage at both ends, while Kayla McBride supplies perimeter scoring that can punish Washington if the Mystics collapse toward the paint.
Washington has played Minnesota competitively this season. The Mystics won 84-79 in June before Minnesota answered with a 78-76 victory three days later.
That history is the main reason not to stretch this play beyond the current spread. At -3.5, Minnesota needs to win by two possessions. The Lynx are the better overall team, but the price still respects Washington's ability to stay close at home.
Pick: Minnesota Lynx -3.5

WNBA Best Bet: Golden State Valkyries -6.5 vs Chicago Sky
The second Friday selection comes from the Golden State Valkyries vs Chicago Sky prediction.
Best Bet: Golden State Valkyries -6.5
Golden State is coming off a 77-66 loss to Minnesota, but one poor offensive night does not erase what the Valkyries have built over the full season.
At 25-10, Golden State remains one of the league's strongest teams and owns a defensive profile capable of creating separation against a Chicago offense that can become inconsistent in the half court.
Gabby Williams is central to that advantage.
Her ability to defend multiple positions, create turnovers and push in transition gives Golden State paths to easy points even when the half-court offense is not operating at peak efficiency. Veronica Burton also gives the Valkyries a steady organizer who can pressure Chicago's guards at the other end.
Chicago does have evidence that it can make this matchup uncomfortable. The Sky beat Golden State 69-63 earlier this season.
The Valkyries answered much more convincingly in the rematch, winning 91-71 on August 12.
That second meeting is the version of the matchup Golden State needs Friday. The Valkyries do not simply need to win at -6.5; they need enough defensive stops and transition opportunities to create a multi-possession margin.
Chicago remains without Rickea Jackson after her season-ending ACL injury, which continues to reduce the Sky's scoring depth.
At the current number, the stronger team is the preferred side.
Pick: Golden State Valkyries -6.5

WNBA Best Bet: Portland Fire -2.5 vs Toronto Tempo
Friday's late game gives us the shortest favorite of the three. The Portland Fire vs Toronto Tempo prediction has Portland laying 2.5 points in Vancouver.
Best Bet: Portland Fire -2.5
Portland has already beaten Toronto twice this season, and neither game was especially close.
The Fire won the first meeting 99-80 and followed with a 97-83 victory on August 6. A short -2.5 spread therefore asks Portland to create far less separation than it managed in either head-to-head matchup.
The scheduling advantage also favors the Fire.
Portland last played Sunday, giving the team several days to recover. Toronto played Tuesday and Wednesday before traveling west for Friday's game at Rogers Arena.
The Tempo enter on a 10-game losing streak and continue to deal with backcourt availability issues. Brittney Sykes is out with a foot injury, while other Toronto guards have recently carried day-to-day designations.
Portland is not being priced like a dominant favorite.
That is part of the appeal.
At -2.5, a three-point victory is enough. The Fire can play a competitive game without needing to blow Toronto out for the wager to cash.
Carla Leite gives Portland a reliable creator who can pressure Toronto off the dribble, while Bridget Carleton provides spacing and veteran shooting around her.
Given the head-to-head results, rest advantage and Toronto's current form, Portland is the preferred late-game side.
Pick: Portland Fire -2.5
Friday WNBA Best Bets Card
- Lynx vs Mystics: Minnesota Lynx -3.5
- Valkyries vs Sky: Golden State Valkyries -6.5
- Fire vs Tempo: Portland Fire -2.5
This three-game card is built around favorites, but the cases are different.
Minnesota is the league's strongest overall team and only needs a modest road margin in Washington. Golden State is laying the largest number, but has already shown the ability to overwhelm Chicago in this matchup. Portland has the shortest spread and the strongest rest advantage after winning both previous meetings with Toronto by double digits.
That variety matters.
A Best Bets roundup should not simply stack favorites because they have better records. Each number has to make sense relative to the matchup, injuries, travel and current price.
The current spreads are also important decision points. Minnesota -3.5 is different from Minnesota -5.5. Golden State -6.5 is different from -8. Portland -2.5 is much more attractive than forcing the Fire at -4.5 or higher.
If the board moves materially before tipoff, return to the individual matchup page before betting.

WNBA Best Bets for August 21: Final Picks
Minnesota, Golden State and Portland make up Friday's final three-play card.
The Lynx are the strongest team on the board and remain playable at the current -3.5. Golden State has the defensive ceiling to create separation against Chicago and already owns a 20-point win in the season series. Portland gets the late-game spot with the best rest advantage and has beaten Toronto twice by double digits.
Final WNBA Best Bets: Minnesota Lynx -3.5, Golden State Valkyries -6.5 and Portland Fire -2.5.
