Yankees AL East Chances at 21% with Judge | Kalshi Live Odds

By: Devin Erickson-Sheehy Published 09/08/2026, 06:30 PM ET

Yankees AL East chances sit at 21% on Kalshi as Aaron Judge returns to New York's lineup Tuesday night after missing 84 games with a right rib stress fracture.

The Yankees enter their home series against Colorado at 81-62, four games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East.

Kalshi currently gives Tampa Bay a 78% chance to win the division, leaving New York as the clear second choice at 21%.

The AL East market has attracted more than $1.27 million in trading volume.

Yankees AL East Chances Sit at 21% on Kalshi

Judge's return changes the Yankees' lineup.

It does not erase the standings.

Tampa Bay begins Tuesday at 85-58 with a four-game advantage over New York and only 19 Yankees games remaining in the regular season.

That gap explains why Kalshi still makes the Rays a heavy favorite despite the return of one of baseball's most dangerous hitters.

Tampa Bay is priced at 78%.

New York is at 21%.

Boston, which sits two games behind the Yankees, has only a small remaining path to the division title.

The Yankees do have one number working strongly in their favor.

Their +117 run differential is far better than Tampa Bay's +47.

New York's underlying scoring margin has looked more like that of an elite team than a club that should be a distant second choice in its own division.

The problem is time.

Expected performance matters less when only a few weeks remain and the team in front already owns a four-game cushion.

For the Yankees, Judge's return has to produce wins almost immediately.

Aaron Judge Returns After Missing 84 Games

Judge has not played since the end of May.

The Yankees activated their captain from the 60-day injured list Monday after he recovered from a stress fracture in his right rib.

The injury initially presented as shoulder discomfort before further testing revealed the fracture.

Judge eventually missed 84 games.

Before going down, he was hitting .248 with 17 home runs and 38 RBIs across 59 games.

Now he returns directly to a pennant race.

New York did enough without him to remain comfortably inside the playoff picture, but the AL East became considerably more difficult while he was out.

Tampa Bay built its lead.

Boston stayed close enough to put pressure on the Yankees from behind.

Judge therefore returns with New York fighting in two directions.

The Yankees are chasing the Rays for the division while protecting a two-game advantage over Boston for the top American League wild-card position.

The immediate schedule gives Judge and the Yankees an opportunity to make up ground.

Colorado arrives at Yankee Stadium with a 55-88 record.

Tuesday's opener is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET, with Cam Schlittler starting for New York against Gabriel Hughes.

Schlittler enters 12-6 with a 2.04 ERA.

Hughes is 0-6 with a 6.19 ERA.

New York could hardly ask for a better matchup to begin Judge's return.

Four Games Leave the Yankees Little Margin for Error

Judge makes New York better.

The standings still make the assignment difficult.

At 81-62, the Yankees would need to gain four games on Tampa Bay in less than three weeks just to pull even.

Every Rays win reduces the number of opportunities left.

Every Yankees loss becomes more expensive.

That dynamic is why the Kalshi probability can remain at only 21% even after a major roster upgrade.

New York's path depends on both teams.

The Yankees need to take care of a favorable part of their schedule while Tampa Bay gives away enough games to reopen the race.

The Rays begin a three-game road series against Atlanta Tuesday.

New York gets three at home against Colorado before another three-game home series against the Mets.

That gives the Yankees six straight games in the Bronx immediately after Judge's activation.

It is the kind of stretch that can move a division market quickly.

A 5-1 or 6-0 homestand combined with a Tampa Bay stumble would cut into both the standings deficit and Kalshi's 78-21 split.

A .500 week would do the opposite.

At this point in September, there are not enough games left for slow movement.

Judge's Return Gives the 21% Price Its Next Test

Tuesday is the first real test of whether Judge's return can change the AL East race rather than simply improve New York's playoff lineup.

The Yankees already have one of the strongest run differentials in baseball.

They now get their best hitter back.

What they do not have is control of the division.

Tampa Bay owns the four-game lead and the much stronger position in the live market.

That makes the coming homestand unusually important.

If Judge immediately strengthens the middle of the lineup and New York starts stacking wins against Colorado, the Yankees' 21% division probability has room to rise quickly.

If Tampa Bay continues winning, even Judge's return may not be enough to meaningfully change the race.

For now, Kalshi has the Rays at 78%.

The Yankees are at 21%.

Aaron Judge is finally back.

New York now has 19 games to turn that return into a division race.
