A rematch of the 1986 World Series will take place on Sunday afternoon, when the Boston Red Sox take on the New York Mets from Citi Field. The Red Sox (45-48) are riding an eight-game winning streak and are suddenly just a half-game back in the race for the final AL Wild Card spot. On Saturday, SS Andruw Monasterio and DH Masataka Yoshida each had two-run blasts to power Boston to a 4-0 road victory against New York.

Twenty-three year old lefty Payton Tolle (5-6 3.14 ERA) has quietly pitched well for the Red Sox through the first half of the season. Last time out, Tolle fired six shutout frames and fanned six batters during an 8-1 road victory against Chicago.

Mets Preview

The New York Mets have dropped six of their last ten games and own the second worst record in the National League. During yesterday’s home loss, New York batters went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. SP Freddy Peralta (5-8) gave up three runs (2 ER) in four plus innings and took the loss for the Mets (40-56), who fell to 21-27 at home.

New York interim manager Andy Green has not announced a starting pitcher for the series finale. The Mets rank 18th in the majors with a 4.32 ERA and a respectable 1.32 WHIP. New York starters have notched an underwhelming 22 quality starts this year.
