Chicago Cubs Preview
Chicago’s recent skid vs. Washington shouldn’t overshadow the bigger picture. The Cubs won two of three against Atlanta at Wrigley last week. Seiya Suzuki leads with 90 RBI and has 27 home runs, which is second. Pete Crow-Armstrong leads the Cubs with 28 homers, and Nico Hoerner is batting .291. Even with a couple of day-to-day injuries (Kyle Tucker, Pete Crow-Armstrong), the Cubs have remained strong in the NL Central.
Chicago starts Cade Horton, who has been steady at 9-4, 2.78 ERA, 1.14 WHIP with only nine homers allowed in 103.2 innings. The Cubs’ staff overall has an ERA of 3.89 and a WHIP of 1.20. Horton’s poise and ability to keep the ball in the yard play well against a Braves lineup that has been streaky. With Chicago’s bullpen performing better than league average, the Cubs are on solid ground, even playing on the road.
Atlanta Braves Preview
Matt Olson leads Atlanta in batting average, home runs, RBI, and on-base percentage (.270/.367/.460, 22 HR, 79 RBI), and Ronald Acuña Jr. remains an on-base force (.399 OBP). Ozzie Albies and Michael Harris II can change innings with power and speed, but injuries (including Austin Riley on the 60-day IL) hurt depth in a long season. Atlanta is at .243/.319/.393 with 160 homers and 626 runs. The last five show a 2-3 record capped by two lopsided defeats to Seattle.
Atlanta will send Spencer Strider to the mound. The right-hander has struggled this season at 5-12, 4.97 ERA, 1.39 WHIP across 101.1 innings with 18 homers allowed. The Braves’ team ERA sits at 4.47, while the WHIP is 1.31, and the club has struggled in night games (46-52).
Cubs vs Braves Prediction
Horton’s command and Chicago’s performance at the plate will be the difference-makers in this game. With Atlanta struggling to string together quality at-bats and giving up runs in bunches, the visitors will win this on Tuesday.
