The Washington Nationals have dropped eight of their previous 11 games and are trapped in the NL East Division cellar. During Friday’s home loss, Washington struck out 11 times and committed four errors. 2B Luis Garcia Jr. homered three times and drove in four runs in a losing effort for the Nationals (65-95), who fell to 31-48 at home.

The Nationals will counter with twenty-eight year old righty Jake Irvin (9-13 5.69 ERA) on Saturday. In his last start, Irvin (5.1 IP) allowed two runs and fanned five batters during a 3-2 road victory against New York.
