In Sunday afternoon MLB interleague action, the Chicago White Sox and the Washington Nationals will wrap up their series from the nation’s capital. The White Sox (59-102) have dropped nine of their previous 11 games and will finish the season with the worst record in the American League. On Saturday, Chicago SS Colson Montgomery fell a triple short of the cycle during a 6-5 road loss.

Rookie right-hander Shane Smith (6-8 3.98 ERA) will make his 29th career major league start for the White Sox. Last time out, Smith (5 IP) gave up one run and struck out eight batters during a 3-2 road loss against New York.

Nationals Preview

The Washington Nationals have lost 38 of their 80 home games and are stuck in the NL East Division basement. During yesterday’s home victory, All-Star OF James Wood went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs to lead the Washington offense. Daylen Lile and Jacob Young also went deep for the Nationals, who improved to 66-95 overall.

Washington interim manager Miguel Cairo has not announced a starting pitcher for the regular season finale. The Nationals rank second worst in the majors with a 5.33 ERA and have lagged 47 quality starts.
