Twenty-six year old righty Slade Cecconi (2-4 5.60 ERA) will take the mound for the Guardians in this matchup. In his last start, Cecconi fired four shutout frames and fanned seven batters during a 3-2 home victory versus Los Angeles.

Tigers Preview

The Detroit Tigers have dropped eight of their previous ten games and are tied for last place with Kansas City. On Sunday, Detroit managed just six hits and left seven runners on base during a lifeless 4-1 home loss versus Toronto. SP Jack Flaherty (0-5) gave up four runs in six innings and took the loss for the Tigers (20-27), who fell to 13-8 at home.

Detroit manager A.J. Hinch will turn to two-time All-Star Framber Valdez (2-2 4.32 ERA) in the series opener. Last time out, Valdez (6.2 IP) allowed two runs and retired seven batters by strikes during a 3-2 road victory against the New York Mets.
