The Guardians (80-71) are riding a six-game winning streak and trail Boston by two games in the race for the final AL Wild Card spot. Last night, SP Gavin Williams (11-5) struck out nine batters and lasted five innings to lead Cleveland to a 4-0 road victory against Detroit.

Twenty-six year old righty Tanner Bibee (10-11 4.44 ERA) will take the mound for the Guardians in this matchup. In his last start, Bibee went the distance and retired ten batters by strikes during a 4-0 home victory versus Chicago.

Tigers Preview

The Detroit Tigers have dropped seven of their previous 11 games and hold a 4.5 game lead over Cleveland for the top spot in the AL Central Division. During Wednesday’s home loss, Detroit batters went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. SP Jack Flaherty (8-14) allowed one run in five innings and took the loss for the Tigers (85-67), who fell to 46-31 at home.

The Tigers will counter with AL Cy Young Award frontrunner Tarik Skubal (13-5 2.26 ERA) in the series finale. Through 183 plus innings, Skubal has fanned 224 batters and leads the majors with a 0.86 WHIP.
