The Colorado Rockies visit the San Francisco Giants on Saturday at Oracle Park, with the first pitch at 4:05 PM ET on MLB.TV. Colorado is 43–116 (18–60 away) and fifth in the NL West. San Francisco is 78–81 (39–39 home) and fourth in the NL West. Both teams have been eliminated from postseason contention. Hit a home run with our MLB picks.

Colorado Rockies Preview

Left-hander Kyle Freeland gets the ball for Colorado (5–16, 5.00 ERA, 1.45 WHIP). He has 120 strikeouts and 37 walks in 156.2 innings with 21 home runs allowed. When he keeps the ball on the ground, he can work until the later innings, but long innings have been a problem against patient lineups.

The Rockies have dropped four of the last five, scoring three runs or fewer in each loss. The team slashline is .238/.294/.387 with 156 home runs. Hunter Goodman carries the group with a .278 average, 30 homers, and 90 RBI. Brenton Doyle and Mickey Moniak add power, yet strikeouts and light on-base rates have made it hard to score runs, especially on the road.

San Francisco Giants Preview

Right-hander Justin Verlander starts for San Francisco (3–11, 3.88 ERA, 1.38 WHIP). Verlander has pitched 146.0 innings with 130 strikeouts and 51 walks, allowing 14 home runs. The veteran still makes hitters miss and has kept most pitches in the ballpark. If Verlander gets ahead early, he can pitch into the sixth or seventh innings easily. The pitching staff has a 3.88 ERA and 1.31 WHIP.

The Giants’ offense has been strong at home. Team totals are .235/.311/.385 with 168 homers. Willy Adames leads with 28 home runs and 84 RBI, while Heliot Ramos has 157 hits and provides timely contact. Jung Hoo Lee adds a solid .260 average and .323 on-base percentage. San Francisco has won two of its last three.

Colorado Rockies vs San Francisco Giants Prediction

San Francisco’s Verlander has performed better than Colorado’s Freeland, and the Giants have more reliable bats in the top half of the order. Colorado’s recent slide, plus poor road numbers, give San Francisco a big advantage at home. This game will be decided late, but playing at home, the Giants will come out on top. Final Score Prediction: San Francisco Giants win 5–3.
