The Friday MLB schedule will get started with a NL Central Division battle between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Pittsburgh Pirates from PNC Park. Last night, DH Jake Bauers went 2-for-4 with a three-run blast and scored twice to lead Milwaukee to an 8-4 road victory against St. Louis.

Twenty-five year old righty Brandon Sproat (3-4 5.13 ERA) will make his 16th start of the year for the Brewers. Sproat, who was acquired in the deal that sent Freddy Peralta to New York, has struck out 101 batters through 99 plus career major league innings.

Pirates Preview

The Pittsburgh Pirates have split their previous ten games and are 12 games out of first place in the division standings. On Thursday, Pittsburgh leadoff hitter Jake Mangum went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs during a 10-5 home loss against Atlanta. Bryan Reynolds and Esmerlyn Valdez also went deep for the Pirates (47-47), who fell to 24-24 at home.

The Pirates will counter with twenty-six year old righty Braxton Ashcraft (9-3 3.24 ERA) in the series opener. Pittsburgh has won Ashcraft’s previous four starts and he has allowed nine runs (8 ER) across his last 23 plus frames.
