Eduardo Valencia homered in his first major league at-bat and Jake Rogers added a solo shot for the Tigers (43-50), who improved to 26-21 at home.
Thirty year old right-hander Jack Flaherty (2-8 4.60 ERA) started the year poorly, but has regained his form lately. Last time out, Flaherty fired five plus shutout frames and fanned five batters during a 3-0 road victory against Texas.
