During Friday’s home victory, DH Eduardo Valencia reached base five times and scored three runs to spark the Detroit offense. 1B Spencer Torkelson fell a single short of the cycle for the Tigers (75-85), who improved to 41-38 at home.
Three-time Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander (0-1 12.27 ERA) will be activated from the 60-day injured list to take the ball for the Tigers. In 2011, Verlander led the American League in wins, ERA, and strikeouts. He will finish his career ranked eighth all-time in strikeouts.
