Pittsburgh enters this matchup at 21-17 on the season, sitting firmly in the NL playoff race, while San Francisco has struggled badly out of the gate and comes in at 14-23. The Pirates averaging roughly 8.5 hits and 4.9 runs per game. Pittsburgh is expected to send Carmen Mlodzinski to the mound on Friday. Mlodzinski enters the game with a 2-2 record and a 4.76 ERA, along with 40 strikeouts over 34 innings this season.
