Last night, Manny Machado’s fifth inning grand slam propelled San Diego to a 7-4 road triumph.

Twenty-six year old righty Randy Vasquez (5-6 3.72 ERA) will make his 25th start of the year for the Padres. Last time out, Vasquez fired six shutout frames and fanned nine batters during a 2-0 home victory versus lowly Colorado.

Mets Preview

The New York Mets have dropped nine of their previous 11 games and are clinging to a 1.5 game lead over Arizona for the final NL Wild Card spot. On Wednesday, New York SP David Peterson (9-6) was roughed up for six runs in five innings. Starling Marte, Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, and Francisco Alvarez all went deep in a losing effort for the Mets (78-74).

Rookie right-hander Jonah Tong (1-2 8.49 ERA) will make his fourth career major league start for the Mets. Last time out, Tong was rocked for six runs and recorded just two outs during an 8-3 home loss versus Texas.
