Starting Pitchers

San Francisco is expected to start Logan Webb, who enters this matchup with a 2-4 record, a 5.06 ERA, and a 1.40 WHIP across 48.0 innings. Webb has allowed 52 hits while striking out 42 batters and walking 15. Colorado is scheduled to counter with Michael Lorenzen, who comes into the game with a 2-7 record, a 7.21 ERA, and a 1.90 WHIP over 53.2 innings. Lorenzen has surrendered 84 hits while striking out 41 batters and walking 18 this season.

Giants Hoping to End Recent Slide

San Francisco enters this matchup with a 22-34 overall record and a difficult 10-18 road mark. The Giants recently dropped three straight games against Arizona after previously winning back-to-back contests over the White Sox. During the losing streak, San Francisco scored only nine combined runs while allowing Arizona to steadily control the series. The Giants have struggled to string together consistency this season, but they have shown flashes offensively in recent wins.

The Giants are batting .245 as a team while scoring 204 runs and collecting 469 hits this season. San Francisco has hit 49 home runs while carrying a .293 on-base percentage and a .388 slugging percentage. On the mound, the Giants own a 4.21 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP while holding opponents to a .243 batting average. San Francisco has also recorded 443 strikeouts this season and owns a 13-21 record in night games.

One of the more encouraging signs for San Francisco is its ability to limit opponent batting average. The Giants are holding teams to a .243 average, which is significantly lower than Colorado’s .280 opponent average allowed this season. Even though San Francisco has struggled overall, the pitching numbers suggest the Giants still have opportunities to stay competitive when the offense provides enough support.

Rockies Trying to Snap Long Losing Streak

Colorado comes into Friday night with a 20-37 overall record and a 10-15 mark at home. The Rockies are currently riding a five-game losing streak after recently losing three straight games against the Dodgers and two more against Arizona. During that stretch, Colorado allowed 15 runs in one game against Los Angeles and gave up at least four runs in every contest. The Rockies have continued to battle offensively at times, but run prevention has been a major issue throughout the season.

Colorado is batting .241 as a team while scoring 229 runs with 460 hits. The Rockies have hit 49 home runs with a .307 on-base percentage and a .376 slugging percentage. Their pitching staff owns a 5.18 ERA with a 1.47 WHIP while opponents are batting .280 against them. Colorado has also recorded 409 strikeouts this season and holds a 13-24 record in night games.

The biggest weakness for Colorado has clearly been pitching. A 5.18 ERA combined with a .280 opponent batting average has made it difficult for the Rockies to consistently compete, especially against teams capable of producing offense early in games. The recent losing streak has only reinforced those issues, with Colorado allowing a large number of runs over the last several contests.

San Francisco Giants vs Colorado Rockies Picks and Prediction

San Francisco Giants vs Colorado Rockies Pick

  • Pick: San Francisco Giants Moneyline

San Francisco enters this game with the stronger overall pitching numbers and a clear advantage in the starting pitching matchup. The Giants also hold the lower opponent batting average and WHIP as a team. Colorado has now lost five straight games and continues to struggle defensively, allowing opponents to consistently produce offense. Even though San Francisco has not played well recently either, the Giants appear to have the more reliable pitching setup entering this matchup.

San Francisco Giants vs Colorado Rockies Total Pick

  • Pick: Over 10.5

I’m leaning toward the over because Colorado games have consistently produced offense lately. The Rockies have allowed 15, 9, 5, 5, and 4 runs during their current losing streak, while San Francisco has also allowed six and seven runs during recent losses against Arizona. Colorado’s team ERA of 5.18 combined with the pitching numbers of both starters creates a favorable setup for offense on both sides. With both teams struggling for pitching consistency recently, this game feels capable of turning into another high-scoring matchup.

Final Score Prediction: San Francisco Giants 7 – Colorado Rockies 5

This prediction was written before the completion of game play on Thursday.
