Rookie left-hander Quinn Mathews will make his first career major league start for the Cardinals. Mathews, who is currently the #7 rated prospect in the St. Louis organization, has struck out 111 batters in 92 innings at Triple-A Memphis this season.

Blue Jays Preview

The Toronto Blue Jays have won consecutive games and are looking to make a push to get back into contention for one of the three American League Wild Card spots. During Friday’s home victory, Luis Urias delivered a pinch-hit two-run single in the eighth inning to move Toronto ahead to stay. SP Dylan Cease struck out seven batters in six innings and did not factor in the decision for the Blue Jays (51-59), who improved to 27-30 at home.

The Blue Jays will counter with thirty-five year old righty Kevin Gausman (4-10 4.51 ERA) on Saturday. Toronto has dropped Gausman’s previous five starts and he has surrendered 19 runs (15 ER) across his last 26 plus frames.
