The Toronto Blue Jays have won three consecutive games and are suddenly just four games back in the race for the final American League Wild Card spot. During yesterday’s home victory, George Springer delivered a two-run double and Alejandro Kirk added a two-run single as Toronto erupted for four runs in the seventh inning. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 2-for-5 and scored a run for the Blue Jays (52-59), who improved to 28-30 at home.

Three-time American League Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (1-4 9.49 ERA) is predictably struggling to get outs at age forty-two. Through 24 plus innings, Scherzer has issued 14 free passes and surrendered an alarming nine long balls.
