Thirty-one year old righty Drew Rasmussen (11-5 2.75 ERA) has quietly emerged as one of the top five starting pitchers in the American League. Through 124 plus innings, Rasmussen has struck out 130 batters and ranks third in the majors with a 0.91 WHIP.

Athletics Preview

The Athletics have dropped eight of their previous ten games and could finish with the worst record in the American League. During Tuesday’s home loss, OF Lawrence Butler closed the deficit to 6-2 in the fourth inning with a two-run shot. SP Mason Barnett (1-3) gave up five runs in four innings and took the loss for the Athletics (47-73), who fell to a disappointing 21-38 at home.

Twenty-six year old righty Jack Perkins (2-8 7.04 ERA) will make his 11th start of the year for the Athletics. Last time out, Perkins surrendered five runs and lasted just three innings during an ugly 13-1 road loss against Boston.
