Twenty-seven year old righty Jose Soriano (9-6 3.29 ERA) will make his debut for the Blue Jays in this matchup. Soriano, who was acquired in a trade deadline deal from the Angels, ranks 24th in the majors with 127 strikeouts and sports a solid 1.25 WHIP.

Phillies Preview

The Philadelphia Phillies have split their previous ten games and are sitting in second place in the National League Wild Card standings. On Thursday, All-Star Bryce Harper went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs to spark Philadelphia to a 7-3 home victory versus Washington. Newly acquired 2B Luis Arraez added two hits and drove in a run for the Phillies (62-54), who improved to 31-28 at home.

The Phillies will counter with thirty-six year old right-hander Zack Wheeler (10-2 2.49 ERA) in the series opener. Through 105 innings of work, Wheeler has retired 126 batters by strikes and owns a minuscule 0.91 WHIP.
