Mariners Preview

The Seattle Mariners have won 25 of their first 45 home games and are a half-game back of Texas for the top spot in the AL West Division. During Friday’s home loss, Seattle batters managed just four hits and were retired by strikes 12 times. SP Luis Castillo (3-7) gave up a pair of runs in six innings and was the hard luck loser for the Mariners, who fell to 45-44 overall.

Twenty-nine year old righty Logan Gilbert (6-5 3.42 ERA) is pitching well enough to make his second All-Star Game appearance for the Mariners. Through 100 innings, Gilbert has struck out 107 batters and ranks eighth in the majors with a 1.01 WHIP.
