On Friday, Washington 2B Luis Garcia Jr. homered and drove in three runs during an 11-5 road loss against Chicago.

Twenty-five year old righty Brad Lord (4.34 ERA) will take the mound for the Nationals in this matchup. Washington has dropped Lord’s previous two starts and he has surrendered 13 runs across his last seven plus frames.

Cubs Preview

The Chicago Cubs have split their previous ten games and are sitting comfortably atop the NL Wild Card standings. During yesterday’s home victory, OF Ian Happ clubbed one of Chicago’s four long balls and scored four times. SS Dansby Swanson contributed a three-run blast for the Cubs (81-60), who improved to 44-26 at home.

The Cubs will counter with thirty-four year old southpaw Matthew Boyd (12-7 2.94 ERA) on Saturday. In 12 home starts this season, Boyd is 10-0 with a 2.12 ERA. The first-time All-Star also ranks 12th in the majors with a sparkling 1.07 WHIP.
