The Washington Nationals complete a series on the road at loanDepot Park on Wednesday versus the Miami Marlins, with the first pitch set for 8:40 PM ET. Season-long team numbers are close: Washington hits .245 with a 5.30 ERA, while Miami hits .250 with a 4.79 ERA. It’s Washington’s Jake Irvin (8–11, 5.71 ERA, 1.44 WHIP) opposite Miami’s Eury Pérez (6–5, 4.66 ERA, 1.10 WHIP). Check out our free MLB Picks here.
Washington Nationals
Washington’s recent surge has been paced by James Wood and CJ Abrams. Wood leads the club in home runs (27), RBI (87), and walks (79), providing the power the lineup has needed. Abrams leads with a team-high .267 average and has added 17 home runs. Washington has scored double-digit runs in two of the last three meetings with Miami (10–5 on 9/3 and 15–7 on 9/8). The Nationals are 36–44 at night and 30–42 on the road..
Jake Irvin has surrendered 33 home runs over 157.2 innings, but his strikeout total (104) gives a chance if he remains ahead in counts. Limiting walks is crucial against a Marlins club that doesn’t walk often but can string together hits. Washington’s 5.30 staff ERA puts pressure on Irvin to reach at least the sixth inning. If he does, the Nationals’ lineup will help with runs against the Marlins.
Miami Marlins
Miami’s Eury Pérez has an excellent WHIP (1.10) and strikeout count (72 Ks in 75.1 IP). When Perez locates the fastball at the top of the zone, he can neutralize Washington’s bats and keep runs to a minimum. The concern for Miami is run prevention after Pérez leaves. The Marlins dropped three of four to Philadelphia and were tagged for 15 by Washington on Monday.

Offensively, Kyle Stowers has been the anchor with a .288/.368/.544 slash, 25 homers, and 73 RBI, but remains on the injured list with an oblique issue. Xavier Edwards leads the team with 143 hits and a .279 average. Even with the recent slide (1–4 last five), Miami has other bats that will step up at home when facing Washington on Wednesday.
Prediction Washington Nationals vs Miami Marlins
Washington has the hotter bats and will produce enough for Irvin and the bullpen to win. With the recent head-to-head scoring outbursts by the Nats against the Marlins, and Miami’s best hitter, Kyle Stowers, on the IL, the odds favor a win by the visiting Nationals. Pick: Final Score Prediction: Washington Nationals win 6-4.
