Hawks Preview

In the first game of a Wednesday night NBA on ESPN doubleheader, the Atlanta Hawks will battle the Cleveland Cavaliers from Rocket Arena. For other NBA action see our NBA Predictions. The Hawks (45-34) have won 18 of their last 21 games and hold a 1.5 game lead over Toronto for fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings. On Monday, Atlanta was unable to make the plays down the stretch of a 108-105 home loss versus New York.

Atlanta G Nickeil Alexander-Walker nailed 7-for-11 from long distance and led all scorers with 36 points. All-Star F Jalen Johnson scored 21 points to go along with 11 rebounds and five assists. Veteran G C.J. McCollum added 17 points and six assists for the Hawks, who shot just 40 percent from the field.

Cavaliers Preview

The Cleveland Cavaliers have won eight of their last ten games and trail New York by one full game for third place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Cavaliers (50-29) rank fifth in the league in offensive efficiency and are scoring a shade below 120 points per contest. On Monday, Cleveland stormed back from a 17-point first half deficit to earn a 142-126 road victory against Memphis.

Cleveland F Evan Mobley tallied a game-high 24 points (9-11 FG), six rebounds, and four assists. Dennis Schroder contributed 22 points (8-12 FG) and 11 assists. Keon Ellis added 19 points and eight assists for the Cavaliers, who shot a sizzling 58 percent from the field.

Hawks vs Cavaliers Pick

Cleveland G Donovan Mitchell (ankle) did not play in Monday’s victory and is listed as questionable for this contest. The Hawks rank sixth in the league in tempo and the Cavaliers rank 12th in that category, so the over is worth a look. The stronger play is on Cleveland to put pressure on New York with a home victory and cover. Final Score Prediction, Cleveland Cavaliers win 124-116.
