Since the All-Star Break, the sixth-seeded Hawks (46-36) won 20 of 26 games and flourished after dealing Trae Young to Washington. Atlanta ranked tenth in the league in defensive efficiency gave up 116 points per game.

First time All-Star Jalen Johnson emerged as the focal point of Atlanta’s offensive attack. Johnson led the Hawks in scoring (22.5 ppg), rebounds (10.3 rpg), and assists (7.9 apg). Nickel Alexander-Walker provided plenty of three-point shooting ability and averaged a career-high 20.8 points per game. Veteran G C.J. McCollum (18.7 ppg) has been reinvigorated since being acquired by the Hawks.

Knicks Preview

The New York Knicks advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals last season and are looking to win their first NBA title since 1973. The third-seeded Knicks (53-29) hired head coach Mike Brown to provide more pace to the offense and ranked second in the league in offensive efficiency. New York won 30 of 40 home games during the regular season and quietly improved to seventh in defensive efficiency.

All-Star G Jalen Brunson ranked tenth in the NBA in scoring (26.0 ppg) and led New York with 6.8 assists. All-Star F/C Karl-Anthony Towns saw his scoring dip (20.1 ppg) from last season, but finished second in the league in rebounding (11.9 rpg) behind Nikola Jokic. OG Anunoby is a premier defender and provided New York with a consistent third scoring option (16.7 ppg).
