Hornets
Charlotte is not a team I want to dismiss right now, because they have been quietly profitable. The Hornets are 10-2 straight-up and 9-3 against the spread over their last 12 games, and they did cover the number against Houston on Thursday.
The problem is that the way Charlotte played that game is not ideal for a back-to-back. They held a double-digit lead, but they could not close. That kind of loss can take a lot out of a young team, especially when the key guys are logging heavy minutes.
Brandon Miller had one of those nights that bettors remember. He went 5-of-22 from the field and 1-of-12 from three-point range. When your top scorer is that cold, you usually need extra possessions and extra energy to stay competitive. That is not always easy to replicate on the second night of a back-to-back.

LaMelo Ball and Kon Knueppel each played over 30 minutes, and Miller also went over 30. That matters, because Cleveland is coming in with a much more controlled workload from Thursday night.
Cavaliers
Cleveland has been one of the most consistent teams in basketball for the last month, and the recent stretch has been even stronger. The Cavs are 11-1 straight-up and 9-3 against the spread over their last 12 games.
They also continue to match up well against Charlotte. Cleveland has won six of the last seven meetings, including a 94-87 road win in Charlotte on January 21. That game also fits a key theme in this series: four of the last five meetings have stayed under the total.
On Thursday, Cleveland took care of business with a comfortable 112-84 home win over Brooklyn. The Cavs jumped out to an 18-point lead in the first quarter and were able to cruise. They only scored ten points in the fourth quarter because the game was already decided.
From a betting perspective, the minutes distribution is one of the most important angles here. James Harden was the only Cleveland player to see more than 24 minutes. That is a massive advantage compared to what Charlotte had to do in their game.
It also helps that Evan Mobley is back. He returned to the lineup against the Nets after missing four weeks with a toe injury. Mobley scored ten points with nine rebounds in 19 minutes, and even if he is not fully stretched out yet, his presence gives Cleveland more rim protection and rebounding.
Over the last 15 games, Cleveland has been top-5 in the NBA in offensive rating, defensive rating, net rating, assist ratio, rebounding rate, effective field goal shooting and true shooting percentage. That is not a fluke. That is a team playing elite two-way basketball.
Key Matchups and Game Preview
This game comes down to one thing for me: which team is more likely to play clean basketball on tired legs. Cleveland has been the more stable team, and they also have the better rest and availability setup.
Even though both teams are technically on the second leg of a back-to-back, they are not coming in with the same type of fatigue. Cleveland was able to coast in the second half against Brooklyn, and their rotation was protected by the scoreboard. Charlotte played a much more stressful game, and their top players were forced to push deeper into the minutes range.
Another important part of this handicap is that Charlotte will be missing Miles Bridges and Moussa Diabate again. Both forwards still have two more games left on their suspension, and that affects Charlotteβs frontcourt depth.
That is a tough thing to deal with against a Cleveland team that is top-tier in rebounding rate and has been playing dominant basketball on both ends. Cleveland also has more lineup flexibility right now with Mobley returning, which helps them cover multiple styles.
I understand the argument for taking the points. From a numbers perspective, the spread looks a little too high. Charlotte is also playing well enough that I would not blame anyone for grabbing the points at home.
But the way I bet games is simple. When the analytics, the matchup history, and the rest situation are all pointing in the same direction, I do not overthink it. Cleveland is the side I want.

Final Score Prediction
Charlotte can keep this game competitive early, but Clevelandβs efficiency and depth should show up in the second half. I also expect the pace to slow down as the legs get heavier, which fits the under trend in this matchup.

How to Wager On Cavaliers vs Hornets
When I bet NBA back-to-backs, I always start with minutes and workload. Cleveland is in the best possible position for a second-night game because they were able to cruise against Brooklyn, while Charlotte played a much more intense and emotional game.
