The Denver Nuggets head to the Delta Center for an 11:00 p.m. ET matchup against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night. Denver comes in at 48-28 and has won five straight games, while Utah is 21-55 and riding a five-game losing streak. Denver has been one of the steadier offensive teams in the league, putting up 121.3 points per game while shooting 49% from the field. Nikola Jokic remains the key with 27.9 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 10.8 assists per game, and Jamal Murray has also been knocking down 3.1 threes per game over the last 10 contests. The Nuggets have scored at least 116 points in each of the last five games, including wins over Golden State, Dallas, Phoenix, Portland, and Utah. Denver is also fifth in the league in assists at 28.8 per game, which is a big deal against a Jazz defense giving up 125.4 points per night.

Utah is in a brutal spot entering this game, especially with the injury report. Keyonte George, Isaiah Collier, and Lauri Markkanen are all out, and that strips a lot of shot creation and scoring from a team that already has major problems on the defensive end. The Jazz are allowing opponents to shoot 49.2% from the floor, and that is a dangerous weakness against a Denver team that moves the ball this well. Utah has dropped five straight games and has allowed 122, 134, 135, 133, and 143 points in that span, so there is no real case that things are tightening up defensively.

The matchup leans heavily toward Denver because the Nuggets have the best player on the floor, fewer injuries, and the much better current form. Utah can still score enough to keep a total in play, especially after scoring 129 points on Denver a few days ago, but asking the Jazz to win four quarters against Jokic is a stretch. Denver’s recent offense has just been too consistent, and Utah has not shown the ability to slow down quality teams. My pick is Denver to cover the spread, with the game also leaning over the total.
